IP Addresses.

Hello Folks, Could someone please explain the difference between an 'internal' and an 'external' IP address? Sometimes I use PCPITSTOP .COM tune up. The information I get back includes both addresses. I know that the 'internal' address is correct. I don't know about the 'external' address as I don't know how to find it. Any information would be appreciated.
Regards, William.

Re: IP Addresses.

Normally....
External is the IP that NTL servers and anyone outside of your LAN will see. Internal IPs are for your internal network only (computers your side of the modem).

Re: IP Addresses.

Hello Paul, Many thanks for your reply. Is it normal for the like of PCPITSTOP to be able to read my 'internal' address or does it matter? Regards, William.

Re: IP Addresses.

Do you run a firewall? If not you may want to.

Re: IP Addresses.

Might need to tweak it a bit then. Try running the firewall test here:

Re: IP Addresses.

Hello Paul, Ran the firewall test. Got a 'pass' for each test. System described as 'Tru Stealth'. Have no idea how to tweak Norton. Cheers, William.

Re: IP Addresses.

Don't worry about it then, you would know if there was anything to adjust by your results from the test.
