Where do you buy Motorola modems

Hello,

Where can one buy motorola modems in the uk because just in case one breaks telewest charge something like £250 but in the states you can get the motorola sb5101 for $100. So I was thinking where can one get one from just in case your own breaks. Motorola dont sell them on their website.

Thanks

Re: Where do you buy Motorola modems

Read the post previous to yours Ameen I guaruntee its accurate. NTL nor Telewest will not register a Modem bought from eBay as they are mostly NTL's property.

I believe the only time NTL or Telewest will charge is when your house is broken into and the modem stolen. They have also been known to charge you if you cancel your contract and don't return their equipment.

In both cases, I don't believe the charge is anywhere near £250. In the first case (the burglary), you should be covered by house contents insurance anyway.

to the forums, as well.

One thing to bear in mind is that niether NTL nor Telewest sell modems currently, so by buying one, you could potentially be buying stolen goods. This act is illegal, and as such we do not allow discussion about it on this site.

Re: Where do you buy Motorola modems

Hi,
I have a surfboard sb4200 and the ethernet port appears to be dead (I connect via USB). I've had it since 2003 and thought it would be out of guarantee. Am I wrong? Will Telewest still replace it if there's something wrong?

Cheers.

Re: Where do you buy Motorola modems

Are we returning these modems at the end or do we keep them? I guess we are returning them but I'm just suspicious since they gave me a brand new motorola and not a used one.

Re: Where do you buy Motorola modems

I had a house party a few years back and someone walked off with my telewest set top box (dont ask :S).

I was told this would cost me 250. I found that a bit extortionate :S

If you purchased your modem (i'm not sure if TW had this as an option years ago, but ntl did) then it is your property and you can keep it.

If you have a rental modem from Telewest, then you should official return it, however as the cable modems have little value, Telewest often don't bother collecting them.

That isn't extortionate- the Set Top Boxes are very expensive. The cable modems are very cheap.

Re: Where do you buy Motorola modems

FYI

Ntl used to charge £250 for stb though they sometimes went halfs with the customer on occasion if asked nicely.

Ambit 100/200 modems cost price = £10. Ntl will not bother collecting them its not cost effective at all.
