Nottingham most dangerous city

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5006852.stm

Study shows that there is more crime per head in Nottingham than anywhere else in the country.

Unsuprisingly Nottingham official have slammed the report as misleading. I don't know why. They'd get much more Kudos if they came out and siad they are going to tackle and reduce crime instead.

I especially love the quote from Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham Council.

Quote:
"How can we possibly be the most dangerous city in the country when, for example, there are 10 times as many murders in London, according to this report, than in Nottingham?"
It's based on popoulation knob head!!!

There's probably more than ten times as many people living in London.

To be fair it's based on population figures from 5 years ago, but they're the most recent accurate population figures.

Re: Nottingham most dangerous city

It's not that bad, the city centre is OK, and most of the city is quite pleasant.

Only St Anns, Meadows and Radford are real **** holes.

Re: Nottingham most dangerous city

I'd say it is a nice town and has some good shops, ice rink, etc.
It's just you sometimes have to be careful who you bump in to at night.
But each city has it's up's and downs. Nowhere is perfect.

A mate of mine who lives up that way reckons it should be renamed 'Shottingham'

because the 'think tank' isn't good at maths?

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/213/213914_anger_at_burglar_hotspot_slur.html?

"the 136,000 population figure used for Stockport is less than half the actual population figure of 284,000 which inevitably gives the impression crime is far more prevalent than it is"

---------- Post added at 16:06 ---------- Previous post was at 16:04 ----------

"statistics for the populations of Bolton and Oldham were also hugely inaccurate - about half the actual number."

Re: Nottingham most dangerous city

Good old statistics, they can usually "prove" anything.

Nottingham more dangerous than London, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow ... I doubt it.

(most crime <> most dangerous)

Sneinton isn't that bad though i wouldn't walk alone through there like i would with most suburbian areas plus the city centre. [and i'm 6'1]

Re: Nottingham most dangerous city

Nottingham is a doss hole of the highest order, I worked in the City Centre for 6 years on nights and I'll tell you something it wants knocking down and building again. I've worked in London, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle I can assure you Nottingham comes top of the pile when it comes to crime and violence.

Which is basically what they're doing at the moment, some major building projects in the city centre and then some in St Anns too.

I've seen all the building work that's going on at the moment, well done to the City Council and Notts County Council for trying to clean Nottingham up. There are some fine people in Nottingham and the surrounding areas who think the world of Nottingham.

You know as well as I do where these trouble makers live so it's up to the police to flush these them out and prosecute them.

Re: Nottingham most dangerous city

Of course if I could afford it, I would still move back to my home city of London in the blink of an eye. Never had ANY trouble when I've been there.

Nottingham does have it's better areas though it has to be said, Mapperley, Wollaton, The Park... actually those three are the only ones that spring to mind right now, lol.

Re: Nottingham most dangerous city

nottingham has bad places like any other city... i wouldn't wander round the meadows at night, but then i wouldn't wander round moss side or gorton (in manchester) either!

it suffers a lot through being a pretty small city with a huge number of students. wherever there are many students (in any city), crime seems to follow
