i was beta testing messenger live and today a different version of beta came out which is completly different in look than last version.

It is just visual changes I think. Now looks a bit more 'vista' like.

I downloaded this update, but it has changed from MSN to windows live?

I take it they dont want MSN version to be working?

is it possible to go back to the MSN one, it looked a hell of a lot better

Live messenger is still msn they have just changed the name. You can uninstall it, then go download the normal msn 7.5

I was using MSN 8 beta, and I thought it was ok, but this just does not seem easier at all.
I find the skins are worse, trying to change to a colour I want impossible, as it makes it lighter than I want!

I know it is cosmetic, but that makes a difference to me.

and half of my contacts details have been removed for some reason....

They upgraded a stable enough beta, to something that crashes every 10 minutes when using the now playing feature.

..and in true microsoft style, they don'ty let you use an earlier version

oh and I preferred the new dark green and white icons

I preferred the new icons as well.

They seem to have taken a lot of the new visual elemnts out and replaced them with the older ones.

That's funny - I had a load of old deleted contacts magically re-appeared when I updated WLM.

...and there's an issue with blocked contacts - the icon doesn't change!

I think this new layout of WLM, is a major improvement over the previous "tonka" toy design of the old version.
