Samsung SMT-2100C and Guide Plus

I recently bought a PIONEER 630 DVD recorder which has a Guide Plus download facility. This worked fine until 2 days ago when my PACE STB was replaced by a new SAMSUNG SMT-2100C STB. There doesn't seem to be a linked code for this STB in the PIONEER setup. The 2100C doesn't figure on the SAMSUNG website either. I've tried leaving the STB on channel 112 overnight and the DVD set to AV2 which I think is what worked with the PACE box, but that was after the right code was fed in through the setup phase. Does anyone have any suggestions please??

Thanks
Mike

Re: Samsung SMT-2100C and Guide Plus

Found this website, your pioneer is listed but not the samsung STB:
http://www.europe.guideplus.com/index.html

But in this thread it looks like it says to use the aerial lead ? :

Tahnks for that. Having followed your link I may try connecting the TV aerial to the DVD direct and see if ITV will feed all programme info.

Re: Samsung SMT-2100C and Guide Plus

I am very interested to know if you managed to get the GuidePlus to work with your Pioneer. I'm thinking of getting the Pioneer DVR-530H and I also have a Samsung SMT-2100C STB but I haven't got a standard aerial. I might have to have a re-think if I can't get it through the STB. Chris

Re: Samsung SMT-2100C and Guide Plus

Hi,
Everything is working fine. Cannot recommend Pioneer DVD recorder highly enough. Managed to set up Guideplus to pick up programme listings from British Eurosport on digital (your need) and also from ITV1 on analogue. Although code for Samsung box wasn't listed in manual I managed to get it to work using Pace box settings. Can't remember all the details, though. I seem to remember trial and error was the way I went. I got there in the end..
I found this website helpful, too - http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...d.php?t=346724

Re: Samsung SMT-2100C and Guide Plus

Hey all

I'm being stupid here. I work in IT and still can't figure this out!

I've got the following setup:

[cable] -> V-Box (Samsung) -> DVD-R (sony HXD-870) -> TV (both connections via SCART)
also: [aerial] -> DVD-R (for freeview decoder)

From what I understand, in order to set up Guide Plus+, I have to do two things.

1) Split my UHF aerial into both the digital and analogue inputs of the DVD-R (we use Freeview for if we want to record something off an available channel while watching something else on the cable box).

2) Position the supplied IR transmitter above the Samsung V-Box and set the DVD-R to transmit the right codes.

Firstly, am I correct? Or am I barking totally up the wrong tree?

The main problem is that I can't seem to control the Samsung box from the IR module on the DVD-R. The Guide+ setup has options for Telewest and NTL PACE boxes, but not the Samsung. Is this something a firmware update might fix? Alternatively, I understand that some boxes use IRDA and therefore require a "red-eye" converter. How can I tell if the Samsung requires one of these?

I had a look on the guide-plus website, but that gave the same STB list as my DVD-R which was why I didn't try the firmware update.

Many thanks for any advice you can give me!

Laurence
