Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)
yep agreed i cant see people paying for the speed for much longer if they do keep to the cap. you can see all the people who have gone on 2mb in here already. then everyones gonna leech em dry 75gb. its clear that people on 2mb want to d/l more than this so thats what there all gonna do. really makes little sense if the cap had been a bit more reasonable then no one would have cared. there just gonna loose alot money i think with all the people going on the unlimited service.

Indeed
I would have stayed on 10 meg if the cap had been set at 150 gig .

If you want unlimited then go on an unlimited service, simple as that.

I agree with him, since after all the people on that service are paying considerably more then 24.99 a month. I also find it debateable they can do this legally without providing the tools to monitor your own usage.

I agree with this and the above comment, I think someone leeching 600gig on 2mbit costs ntl more then someone leeching 75gig on 10mbit, and to top it off they make less revenue out of the first.

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)
its the same with most companies offering broadband they are all capped, even the ones that offer unlimted
wanadoo saying you can have 8 meg via a bt line, if the phone line can not operate this speed that another speed would be offered and again a download limit

agree, all seems abit weird, but then they would send you a letter with the "effecting other peoples internet" and then downgrade you to 512k.
Maybe thats the secret, get all the heavy downloaders onto the 2meg then see actually the real amount they are downloading then punish them.
Also this 2meg, why can we as 10meg not downgrade via website, and ALSO why isn't it really advertised and advertised properly, its only on here that i would know about the 2/1meg unlimited as the website although states Unlimited still states user allowances.

I think theres soon going to be a separate section for 2meg users.
Save some room for the rest of us.

On a 1meg connection nothing should happen, as they should now be unlimited.

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)
Well, I looked on www.ntlhome.com today to see if they had finally updated the pages for 1mb and 2mb and, yes, they have. On all the pages (including the dreaded AUP) it says "Download as much as you like" (paraphrased). So WOO! etc.

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)
But have a look at said AUP - not a dicky bird about michael taking. It seems more concerned in you not running a server, shopping online safely and running virus checkers.
I think it all comes down to fair use. Is it fair to run your connection 24/7 and pull in 600gb of stuff you'll never watch/play/use and possibly bugger up other people's uses?
Then again, as what appears to be happening in my area once you hit peak time of an evening, is it fair that someone who doesn't know what they are doing throttles the UBR with their crappy bit torrent uploads, clicks on any attachment and throttles the UBR with a bazillion pieces of spam shooting from their machine? NTL should be able to spot this sort of activity and alert the customer.

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)
need your advice guys on something.
When there was a cap on the 2mb plan, I went well over that limit daily and yet received no warnings or complaints. And im thinking of going for 10mbit upgrade with the 75gig limit, because i dont think i will get *caught* (touchwood) if i do go over the limit, mainily because i live in a small town, not in a busy congested networked city
What you think, good idea? or am i pushing my luck?
