Re: Slow NewsServer ?

I had a look earlier today & found the headers came down really fast. There was an occasional lag between clicking to download a message body and it starting, but once the download commenced it seemed to be normal speed

Re: Slow NewsServer ?

Its very 'stuttery' - headers are perfect, very fast, but the actual posts are very slow with the odd burst of speed.

Re: Slow NewsServer ?

I used the news.cable. conection for the first time in ages last night, it was very unstable.

I usually use news.tesco.net , or news.virgin.net with my ntl user/pass

They never seem to have many problems.

Re: Slow NewsServer ?

lol if your using ntl newsever for binary downloads then i dont see why you should bother. Suggest going with a premium such as newshosting.com

Re: Slow NewsServer ?

Have to say that ive had no problems with the news server - always get downloads over 1100 kb/s i find it faster than USENET - all be it that there is less choice in way of binaries. Dunno what software you guys use for newsgroups but Grabit allows you to download 8 threads at a time so may speed up your downloads .....

Re: Slow NewsServer ?

hmm i would still recommend a preimum provider, because ntl has blocked most of the groups and most of the good content is in those blocked groups. And rooked when you say that you download faster than usenet, that cant be right because you are downloading from usenet.

Re: Slow NewsServer ?

i understand what you are saying but i have access through NTL - which might be usenet but using an NTL server. I also pay for access using USENET.com using there servers. ie. news.cable.ntlworld.com & euro.usenet.com. .........two different servers - two different speeds

Re: Slow NewsServer ?

usenet.com is a complete rip of mate. For $14.95 you can get unlimited downloads, 40 day retention and 8 connections at newshosting.com and i completely max out my connection with 2 connections but i use all 8 just for the sake of it.

i also know people who work for usenet and their service is pretty shabby

Re: Slow NewsServer ?

I have an Easynews account which I can max out with 3 connections, the NTL server was very good until recently, headers are still good, but the bodies are awful, even with 8 connections.
