I phoned them to be upgraded, but was told that as I'd already filled in the www.ntlworld.com/stb page, that's all I needed to do (i.e they wouldn't hit the box with the new config).
I just kept rebooting (i.e. turn off power)the STB every day, and finally got the new config file seen in the 'up' 'down' 'blue' summary menu.

Now that's just plain weird because the form at that URL suggests you should only fill it in if you want to pay £50 for a new STB/SACM????
I rang last week to be told - "its rolling out and your STB will be upgraded (well to 5 anyway) automatically". Mind you there's not many working days in December left and the letter said "During December"....
I remain......with hope....and on 3meg....

Thanks for this. I am in Reading area (RG10) with a Ambit 100 and only get between 5 and 6. You post has I think confirmed that its the modem at issue rather then the local network.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
I can honestly say 10Mb is a complete Joke. Ive had it for a few weeks now and recently its gotten so bad. My average download rate for HTTP is ~80KB/s. FTP is fine. Pulling from mirror.ac.uk gets you +1MB/s. As usual, the renfrew caches are abysmal.
Ive also been experienceing some packet loss and ping spikes. Using visual route, im seeing congestion, at the Renfrew and Lee (Leeds?) cores.
Anyone had similar problems up here?
Dave

Just to add, the packet loss and ping spikes are occuring here:
renf-t2core-a-ge-wan62.inet.ntl.com and lee-bb-b-so-600-0.inet.ntl.com and also lee-bb-a-ae0-0.inet.ntl.com

Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
After contacting NTL and being told to 'reboot and it should come up as 10mb' well, after doing all that (and turning the modem off at night or when not in use) we're still chugging away at 2.85mb.
I'm rather frustrated by it all..
silver ambit 120 here, USB connection...

Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
Well, what is your upload,if it is 60k/s then you have the 10 mbps.If so it could be that you should connect using ethernet.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
If you have 500kbit (62.5KB/Sec) Upload you are on the 10mbit service.
If the Speed is Slow, here is a few things to think about:
1. Grab a file from the UK Mirror Site - see how fast it goes.
2. Try Modem Direct into a PC via Network card 10/100 to Eliminate router
3. STB and some STB (CM) will have speed issues
4. Try different times of the Day, no good trying Peak times.
My own experience so far:
SB4100 Modem would not go over 5Mbit due to Firmware Issues, once new firmware in place speeds were from 30KB/Sec to 1.1MB/Sec. PLugged in via my old router (had 10mbit port) slowed my connection down to 5-6Mbit. Bought a Linksys Wireless router and speed got better fast.
Speed still all over the place, once some work got done In my Area (I Imagine) the Speed now are pretty much 8-10mbit on 'normal' places, of course grabbing from certain sites etc is slow due to there pipe been slow (China for example). Outside Peak hours the speed is always 10mbit - pretty constant actually. No Issues with Pings / Lag in games at all now.
Bottom line is I guess there is still work going on, depending on how busy your area is also has a bearing on speeds your going to get. If 10mbit is crap then there is always 2mbit unlimited or ADSL 8mbit.

How long did it take them to call you after you filled in the form on the website. I'd really like to get mine done before I go back to work on the 3rd
I think this is a bit shabby as I've been with Nynex/CWC/NTL since 1997. Why should new customers get this free ?

Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
To save a tonne of ten of reading, basically 1-2mb users are not getting the 10mb service but are going to be uncapped? so if I want 10mb I have to pay the £37.99 but also get hit with a cap?
