Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Hi,
Ok I fear I am going to be slated for asking this, but i cant be bothered to search through 65+ pages on this thread for the answer...
I have been upgraded to 10MBit/s today already and have been getting 1.18Megabyte/s download.. which is fine. However I came home this eve. to find my NTL:home 120 modem disconnected, it wouldnt reconnect without a hard reset. Should this modem be capable of sustaining 10Mbit?
I'm guessing so??
Cheers
Duncan

There have been a few posts saying it will and it won't. There have been posts where people have had theirs swapped for 250's. Phone ts and tell them the problem you have had / are having and see what happens. From what I've read I don't think it is

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
In Northants, got the 10mbit autoupdate sometime yesterday.
Terayon T2210, 8.1Mbps is the maximum I have seen in normal use.
I have not bothered with speedtests so have no idea of the upload.
I would expect it to be normal as the download is perfectly in line with the guide shown earlier in the thread.
I will wait to be contacted if the modem needs changing.
To be honest 3Mbps was perfectly adequate for my needs although the faster upload is welcomed.

This is what I was saying 5-6 weeks back, because the contention has increased, the trade off is a higher max speed but lower average speed. So peak time performance will be worse then what it was with 1/2/3mbit tiers. However during quiet periods performance should be better. Remember right now 'everyone' else isnt upgraded, their is still 2 more tiers to go, wether or not capacity will be put in place to cater for these people noone knows but I hope it will. For the last 2 nights I havent been able to get 10mbit at 3am, saturation is still present at a light level so when they did the auto upgrade earlier it has made a noticeable impact.

how do you know NTL has increased the contention? I hope you aren't presenting an opinion/idea as a fact.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Infact thats very much my experience of the 10meg on day 1.
During the day yesterday (around 2pm/3pm) i was getting full 10meg speeds.
Between about 6pm and 11pm, i could not get the conenction over 6meg (to the point I thought some of my hardware was failing).
After 11pm back up to the full 10meg speeds again.
On 3meg, I could get the full speeds all throughout the day. I am pretty sure there arent many people in my area that have BB (although I will never be ale to find out this information probably) so does that mean that contention has changed and I am sharing with more people?
Not a whine post just trying to figure out what i am paying for

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Yesterday, asked to go on 10Mb/s, just the speed increase not the highest price band. I was on the 2Mb and after 10 mins it came through. They did say it was only a trial so I can't complain but... the speeds are all over the place now. Using a 4100 cable modem with firmware Software Version: SB4100-0.4.9.4-SCM02-NOSH, Hardware Version: 0, MIB Version: II , GUI Version: 1.0, VxWorks Version: 5.3 in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. Average download speed so far is 540kb/s, so about twice what it was at 2Mb. Does seem to be restricted speed, starts off at over 1Mb/s and settles at 540kb/s, like the 2Mb/s settled at 220 kb/s. Using Apple's Quicktime 7 as a test file (32MB). Hopefully they haven't put me on the £37/month price.

They will have as there are no other options in the billing system at this time.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Not sure if this is good results or not, because there such varied speeds...
But rang up 3 times saying about the 10mb upgrade and finially got some goodish results i think....
Fri, 02 Dec 2005 10:09:37 GMT
1st 128K took 156 ms = 840205 Bytes/sec = approx 6991 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 156 ms = 840205 Bytes/sec = approx 6991 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 157 ms = 834854 Bytes/sec = approx 6946 kbits/sec
is that good.
BTW...In stockport/Manchester
4th 128K took 156 ms = 840205 Bytes/sec = approx 6991 kbits/sec
