Re: Redundant
Heared the news on the NTL jungle drums. Sorry to see you go Bill
Where will we Techs go for advice , tips and general broadband help now.
Looks like it will be the old 'your connection works ok on my laptop sir, goodbye'... lots more of dissatisfied customers. NTL''s loss (again).

Re: Redundant
Well Bill, what a shocker logging in tonight.
I am happy to see that you have the right attitude, not so much the loss of a job, more the start of a new adventure, been there done that many times.
I know you wonââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t have any problem finding new employment as good people are hard to find in this day and age.
Good to see that we are not losing you from the forum.
As I havenââ‚ƚ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t had any problems with the services I only come to the forum for enjoyment and your sense of humour and northern wit has given me many laughs.
All my best wishes to you for the future.

Re: Redundant
Again Ntl shoots itself in the foot.
Again it's at the expense of it's staff and customers.
What a Company. :-(
I'm glad that OB and Bill don't seem to mind too much and that they have got a good redundency package.
I wish both of you all the best for the future.

Re: Redundant
Gutted when I read the first post but if Bill's happy then that'll do, gutted again when OB posted but another happy bunny, who knows next round of 'employ em' we 'may' see you both back maybe as 'freelancers' and invoicing NTL for what you are both really worth.
best of luck to you both

annoying when corrected on this, so officially they not ntl staff, but they are working for ntl just indirectly, so ntl will just be directors then and outsourcing :p

Re: Redundant
I'm glad things have worked out for you Bill and OB, I wanted redundancy during the "Planning for Growth" fiasco. I didn't get it so walked out of the company after 12 and a half years with nothing.
I walked straight into another job, unfortunately I was made redundant after just 8 months. I was a little worried but soon had a smile on my face, when the redunddancy package for my 8 month job was about the same as I would of got for 12 and a half years in ntl.
Constantly reducing employees is the only way ntl are meeting thier targets. Very few of the jobs they advertise are technical these days, you only need to have a look at the website to see most are gathering statistics. It will get to a point when there will be no one available to fix a fault but a glut to of emplyees to report that statistic.
There's fewer and fewer out there fixing things these days.

Wonder just how legal that is as they have access to our account details on a Database that is supposed to be for NTL/NTL staff. Would be nice to see if this is a technical issues NTL have no experience of handling like the fact soon they will have no technical staff to service the network. Contractors could hold the company to ransome for higher fees by letting the network slip or taking longer to fix, where as their own staff would have the job fixed quickly. Its a cut throat business and unless you have your own guys you never know what is round the corner.

It's completely legal. The Data Protection Act doesn't require that access to data is restricted to persons employed by the company who hold the data, only that it is restricted to appropriate persons.

Agreed. Access can be given to agents of a company, whether they are employees or not.

Re: Redundant
Best of luck to both.
Can not really understand why ntl is replacing some of its best staff with more contractors from Kelly Services!!
They should try making a few of the useless muppets in top dog roles redundant instead, that must be the biggest most needless drain on resources. Do they really need a director of customer services at all 3 call centres and 3 communications managers at each? All must be on pretty healthy salaries too!
Certainally have to say Bill sorted a prob for me last year and really seemed to know his stuff so definately ntls loss.
Glad the redundancy package is good for both!
