Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Am I on a 10 Meg service ?
Hi,
Have been upgraded to a 10 meg service using a NTL 120 Modem. On running a speed test (Robin Walkers) I am getting the following results :
1st 128K took 100 ms = 1310720 Bytes/sec = approx 10905 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 120 ms = 1092267 Bytes/sec = approx 9088 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 140 ms = 936229 Bytes/sec = approx 7789 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 120 ms = 1092267 Bytes/sec = approx 9088 kbits/sec
This averages to 9217.5 kbits/sec. To me that mean I am getting a 10 Meg service.
The reason I am confused was because I was only expecting a maximum of 5 Meg download service from a NTL 120 modem.
Am I missing something ?
I am in Nottingham.
Thanks
Perm

Yes. The ntl:120's were only doing 5 meg with the firmware they had when the speed upgrades began. They have since done a firmware upgrade which allows them to run full steam ahead.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Paul M,
Ahh thanks for the respose that makes some sense now. Is there any advantage is having a model 250 modem over a Model 120 modem now that they both support 10 meg ?
Cheers

Optimising settings for a 10 Meg Connection.
Now that I have a 10 meg connection working on a NTL 120 modem, can someone advise if there are any setting that need to be tweaked to optimise performance for downloading / browsing?
I using internet Explorer on an XP machine. (Happy to swap to Firefox v1.5 if this is better for performance).
Thanks

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
I just got the 'Christmas' card from NTL delivered saying that as a special customer etc etc, I''l get free 10M upgrade from 3M in Dec, lower price in Jan and free BB+ membership.
I've tried twice in previous weeks to get CS to upgrade me with no luck - does anyone know if actually having the 'letter' helps to push them along if I was to phone again or is it really a wait for the auto upgrade to happen?
PS. Letter advises u go to site ntlworld.com/10 which simply says come back on 05/12/05

Speed may not be related to your modem. I have a ntl 200 modem which is perfectly capable of delivering 10mb. I can't get above 5mb either. I think it's because my area (Stafford) hasn't had the "network optimizations" yet. Planned for tomorrow from what i can see. Could also be your router if you use one.
