Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

I just phoned CS. First time a woman said I couldn't even be let into my account (its in my mums name but I am registered on the account!) because I could not remember the password thing, but I could give every other bit of info.

The 2nd time (phoned back cos I was angry) a guy said there was no password on the account at all... anyway he checked and said my model (NTL 200) could not support the service and I had to wait. This was the closest I have ever been so I tried again...

"One second let me check... Yes you should get the file in about an hour"

60 seconds later the modem resets and I am on 10mb!

Manchester btw.

Very nice

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

yeees.. we're in Manchester too (well, Stockport...) and we've gone through the mill.
The indian call centre - twice, the nice guy on the desk who put us through to a very closed customer services and well, we got so sick of calling we're just sitting and waiting for the 10mb shtuff now. We got close a couple of times, and other times it was like communicating with a brick wall.... so while NTl doesn't know whats happening and if it does it's only vaguely, I'd rather sit back, if you know what I mean... let it happen.. heck, I suppose I'm letting myself get too relaxed about it lol!
Our speed at the moment is erratic and sometimes drops well below 2mb (and we're on 3mb). At present, it's holding slightly steady. But I wonder how many people have said "10 mb connection" and on the other end of the phone, they've misheard it as "2 mb connection"...
Like the gravy, the plot thickens..
One day, they'll have an idea...
for now...

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

I've just had a quick glace though the pages of stuff, so here it is in black and white:

Take from NTL's own BB web page: http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/broadband

"Coming soon 10Mb Broadband with 75GB monthly usage allowance!"

Anyone know what the upstream of the 10 Meg line will be? (I'm on 2Meg D/S at the moment).

Cheers.

just been upgraded to the 10mb service, & for anyone who wants to know the silver ntl 120 sacm does work ok on the 10mb speed. Also yet again CS are very well informed & have always been faultless in the help they have given me.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

Phoned CS 4 times today to try and get an engineer visit to swap my Ambit 100 to a 250.

1st try : Got thru to an Indian helpdisk. No help at all. Refused to send a guy at out and was intent on working from his set of questions.

2nd try : Got thru to a nice chap (Mr Y)who ran a test on my modem while I was @ work. He confirmed the ubr I am on is fine, but modem logs were not looking good, so he asked me to run some funky test which would have me mucking around with the co-axial cable. I agreed to ring him back when I got in from work and was ready.

3rd try : Got thru to some chap (Mr X). I asked to speak to Mr Y but he told me his line was busy and if he could help. At this point. I decided to hang up.

4th try : Got thru to Mr Very Helpful. I asked to speak to My Y (who was still engaged) so I decided to take Mr Very Helpful up on his offer. I explained the situation and was shocked by what he said. "So what would you like from me sir"... errmm An enginner ?.. and a new 250 modem... "does 12 till 6 on Thrusday suit you ?...

Proof that different people give you different results.... which is a shame. I will have to book Thrusday of work, (only after I have rang CS to confirm the engineer visit).. I have read to many horror stories of people missing work for a no-show.

Hurry up Thrusday.

(ps... I made dammed sure I got a name and ref number for our little convo...)

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

I realsie that this is a test of the new service and everyone and his dog is probably downloading like jackrabbits but my Speeds have once again dropped BELOW 2mbit levels, web page browsing is painfully slow, FTP speeds all over the shop once again etc.

COme the 5th Dec (my One month period) Ill give them a call and go back to 2mbit I think, it was def faster overall then the 10mbit ever was - or will the 2mbit service now also be slow as hell as more people have 10mbit?

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

Hi

Just upgraded to 10Mb from 2Mb. Done it online via tiermigration page. Modem rebooted and hey presto I'm on 10Mb. Well 5Mb actually, according to the speed test results :-

Downstream 5179 Kbps (647.4 KB/sec) 5593 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 493 Kbps (61.6 KB/sec) 532 Kbps (inc. overheads)

By the way I'm in the WS15, Staffordshire area, with an ntl:250 modem going through a Linksys router with 2 PC's connected, 1 wired, 1 wireless.

Anyone else in Staffordshire upgraded to 10Mb?

ATB
Ian

PS. Just tried downloading a file and the connection is variying wildly from 600Kbs to 9500Kbs. Not steady at all. Lets hope that this will improve over the next few weeks.
