0.4 db power on my cable modem
I have been having real bad connection issues on BF2 for the last 5 months. NTL put this down to my puter (sounds familiar). They have been out and swapped the modem, gave me 3 months half price and even turned the power up at the junction box. However having read the thread on connectiong to your modem tonight on here and seen the 3 - 8 range target I realised I may have a serious issue. Mine is currently at 0.4........This may explain all the connection issues. How do I get this resolved by the company that is NTL???
My Dl and UL speeds are correct for a 3 meg line but playing BF2 forget i. I can't connect to a UK server and that sucks. Hope you guys can shed some light on this. thanks. Andy

0.4db is fine, so this won't be causing your problem.

+/- 3 means anything between +3 and -3

Re: 0.4 db power on my cable modem
Ok guys heres the thing then. I play Battlefield 2 (BF2) online. Now I have played alot of online games and I enjoy these games. However I am finding my ping times on UK servers of well over 700. This is creating massive lag and usually ends up with me getting kicked. I used to play RVS on a Norwegian server and infact on servers all over the world and never had lag issues. Is this a NTL issue or what? I have friends in London and Chester that both have NTL and have slower speeds than mine and have no worries playing BF2 on any servers. this makes me think NTL is the culprit so what can I do???

Re: 0.4 db power on my cable modem
Here is the tracert. This is a UK only BF2 server. my ping was between 250 - 500. It dropped to 30 a few times but the game was unplayable and I was warping like a member of the starship enterprise crew.

Re: 0.4 db power on my cable modem
This is a trace via a wireless AP on le ntl, hence the high-ish first pings...

Re: 0.4 db power on my cable modem
A slap, not a medal, Ig, the dirty deserter.
0.4 is fine, it's not an absolute measure of wholesome goodness but a scale where a range around 0 is considered ok and you only have to start worrying at the edges. It's also only one of five key measurements you can take on a particular connection to get somewhere, so the problem may lie in one of the other four, or indeed on your particular upstream due to peak time congestion (which we're pretty good at monitoring).
To sum up - downstream receive power isn't the only thing worth looking at - in your case it's ok - so let's look at the next thing. PM me your cable modem's MAC address.

Re: 0.4 db power on my cable modem
My internet connection has had problems with signal strength ever since I signed up. I have called them about 20 times to fix the problem over the space of a year. Finally a month ago they said they had finally fixed the problem and allw as fine and well, but alas last night i checked the modems operational configuration page on its built in HTTP and the signal strength is at -5.

And it's worth mentioning at this point that we can vouch for BBKing as an NTL employee. You can trust him with your MAC address.

Re: 0.4 db power on my cable modem
I'm on 10mbit and my downstream receive power has always been around -6.0 dBmV - -8.0dBmV.
Never had any problems with that 'touch wood'.
