Doing a tracert will have no affect on throughput, and they are all done when idle. If you are been sarcastic dont put others down please who are trying to solve a problem.

Please do as i'm also on the look out for another provider, which hopefully will be able to provide a stable connection for gaming as NTL seem unable to accomplish this

Re: Gaming Connections / Leicester
Well as the original poster, My problem is still not solved. It seems the routing to NL/Europe is just shocking, and its not been fixed for just over 2 months now...
Is there any hope ? what can I do ? If I phone ntl can they change anything for the routing to nl ?
Regards.

Re: Gaming Connections / Leicester
I am sending en email tommorow forgot to do it last week sorry.
Yeah it is easily the worst peering NTL have got at the moment it seems to only be unsaturated for about 10 hours over an entire weekend (2am to 7am) and at its worst has approximate 10 times as much bandwidth been pushed over capacity. So does seem to need a major upgrade or reroute of traffic.
during the week it is better it doesnt start to saturate until later in the day and clears up slightly earlier around 1am but I am guessing ntl's pipe seems to be fairly small since it fluctuates wildly which is a sign of the bandwidth I am pushing been close to the maximum capacity so I doubt it is any larger then 100mbit.
At its worst I am pulling approx 80kB from a dedicated 1:1 100mbit server which is 30ms away, and to rule out my end been the problem at 3am I get this.
Transferred: 50,000,000 bytes in 48.27 seconds (1,011.6 KB/s)

Re: Gaming Connections / Leicester
I've been playing BF2 for some time now without many problems due to lagging. But this week has hit an all-time high. I haven't been able to play a single game without some sort of lag at some point. One night I just gave up on as I couldn't do anything, I would have been better off playing via a phone line...
BTW, all servers were multiplay.co.uk ones. Downloading and normal surfing not affected...

Re: Gaming Connections / Leicester
yeh the fact that only multiplay are allowed to host ranked servers sucks, but bf2 does have crap netcode, i had this issues to the extent of 500 - 1000 pings power cyling my network fixed the issue though

This is a complete pain in the ass issue. I never used to have the problem up until a couple of weeks ago. (also power cycling my network only makes a difference for about 10mins, then it's back again)
It's not just multiplay servers either, I've since tried several other servers based here, in Germany, the states and in Holland. All exactly the same! THIS SUCKS BIG TIME!!!
Just to note as well, none of my game playing buddies have any issues what so ever. Granted most are on ADSL, but some are on Telewest. There is only a couple of us on NTL, and I'm the worst affected to the effect that it's nearly making game play impossible...

Re: Gaming Connections / Leicester
My solution was to turn down the graphics to lowest. I can see why that would improve FPS but why oh why did it improve my latency? Who knows. Now I have a playableish 80-100ms latency.
Hope this helps someone.
My graphics card isnt exactly weak, I think it may have been due to my CPU (AMD AthlonXP 2400+ Barton)

Re: Gaming Connections / Leicester
I acutally had a good night last night. Was online for about 2hrs and not a single freeze/jolt. Now that was a big surprise to me...
BTW, I've turned my graphics back up the cards max from lower settings... Now work that one out!!!
