Re: List your router & whether it works with 10mb
I have a Netgear MR314 wireless router which is approx 3 years old (got it when NTL provided bb here) It has a ethernet connection of 10 base-T standard which gives 10 Mb; is anybody able to tell me if this can handle 10Mb full duplex or 10Mb in total?
I dont bother too much with the wireless connection as I have cabled up the house for kids pooter upstairs!
Ta for any help
Andy

Router supporting 10mbit bandwidth
Hey guys,
I just realised that my router is the cause of my 10mbit ntl connection only running at 5mbit, the model is Belkin F5D5231-4, i called them up and they said that all their routers only support 5.5mbit, can anyone recommend a router that will let me run at full speed?
thank-you

Its more than likely, i have a Belkin model of some description, itll be the same when i get upgraded, looks like a new Router for me. Either that or get a new NIC and use my server as the router and the Belkin as the switch.

Re: Router supporting 10mbit bandwidth
I have a Linksys Wireless / 4 Port Switch Router: WRT54GS
I've had no problems at all with speed and recent speed tests show a full 10mbit connection. I've used Linksys routers for years with no issues although they are probably one or two pounds more than some you can get. Linksys are basically Cisco now as they were purchased by them last year.

Re: Router supporting 10mbit bandwidth
If the router only has a 10M ethernet port then it's not going to run at full speed, even in duplex mode. You need a 100M or 1000M (Gigabit) port.

Re: Router supporting 10mbit bandwidth
I've just plugged my lappy directly in to my Terayon modem and get the same results as i do when i connect to the modem via the WAP and router
So now what do I do?
Call CS and get a new modem,
put a router on my birthday / christmas list
Can anybody say if i will need to replace the Belkin WiFi PCcard or will that work with the above Linksys routers?

Re: Router supporting 10mbit bandwidth
Taken from my Belkin Router Manual
Quote:
Integrated 10/100 4-Port Switch
The Router has a built-in, 4-port network switch to allow your wired
computers to share printers, data and MP3 files, digital photos, and much
more. The switch features automatic detection so it will adjust to the speed
of connected devices. The switch will transfer data between computers and
the Internet simultaneously without interrupting or consuming resources.

Re: Router supporting 10mbit bandwidth
states on the box its 10/100, can anyone explain why a 10/100 isn't allowing 10mbit to pass through router? i haven't a clue about these things.

Re: Router supporting 10mbit bandwidth
The light on the router are Green 10Mb, and Orange for 100Mb, it might be that your PCI card is the problem.
Or your modem itself
Try connecting to the web from 1 PC to the modem directly.
What modem do you have?
