outside house cable move

Hi all, this is my first post so I hope I'm in the right place!
We have broadband and cable tv with NTL and we need to move out tv/PC to the other side of the house during re-plastering etc. It will involve an external cable re-route. Outside on the wall there is what looks like a splitter with only one outlet in use. would it be possible to use the other outlet with a new cable routed to the new destination, leaving the orginal in place (this is only a temporary move), and if so, where can I get hold of the cable/ connector which correctly interfaces the splitter?

I'm sorry but if you want any cabling moving, removed etc then it can only done by a qualified ntl engineer. Doing so yourself may result in you effecting the other customers on the network, which will result in a hefty bill from mr ntl if they find out it was you. best be safe, call ntl and inform them you want to relocate temporarily.

There will more than likely be a charge on there too though, so why not just go without your tv while re-plastering?

Thanks for that, I didn't know this strategy could have consequences for other users. I will definitely contact NTL for this. As for the other suggestion, re-plastering etc is likely to take 6 months and would leave me without broadband as well as tv. I'm sure most people would find that a bit of a sacrifice!

Make sure you do my friend. Because if it does cause problems on the network, we can, and will trace it to where it's coming from, resulting in a nice charge. Give CS a call tomorrrow 0800 052 2000 (bang on 8 less people calling in then)

...surely you can go 6month without TV and Broadband?

Spend some quality time with the other half and enjoy eachothers company

You might find it cheaper to buy a wireless kit & leave the modem where it is.

you'd be surprised how many customers demand a tech asap because there broadband goes down for a day. Just think back to the day before you had it, how did you cope then? There is a well worn story of a gentleman in Glasgow who moved house in the same street and moved his own cable. The house he moved to had cable which was unplugged. So he unpatched his from the street cabinet and patched his new connection and moved his box. The first that the ntl engineer knew about it was when he notified change of address and they sussed that he was still getting channels.

Now maybe someone from Glasgow can tell us if this is true or not.....

Jezzer mate,Why dont you just buy the cable and connectors and do the job yourself.U d probably do no worse than most of the (so called) engineers anyway and it would definately be cheaper than going wireless!
You are hardly likely to put any "noise" back into the network.You are only required to terminate a couple of ends as there is already a splitter(with spare output) fitted.You would nt be effecting any one else around you by carrying out such a small alteration!

Yea I know when NTL came out to install my BB, They couldn't be bothered to run cable anywhere instead the bloke told me he would use the old Coax from my sky digital that was already there from years ago. He simply stuck the modem on the end of it so I don't even have any NTL cable going from my living room to upstairs it's ex sky digital coax even the connectors on the end of it are. so it's a bit late to worry about others having a problem in my area as NTL don't seem to be at all bothered!

So I know if I neeeded to do a move I would just do it myself it seems most engineers can't be bothered to do a proper install anyway.

And if I get a big bill well I ain't really bothered I'll just pay it off at a pound a month or file an administration order and get it written off after twelve months and go back to sky.
