anonymous caller rejection
Why is it not working all the time, I keep getting " unavailable" or just a blank line, mostly from people trying to sell me a mobile phone in India

Re: anonymous caller rejection
Anonymous Caller Rejection only stops calls where the number is Withheld - not Unavailable or International, as they may be legitimate calls. This is standard to ntl and BT.
You might like to try the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) at www.tpsonline.org.uk - they can get you off of most cold-callers lists, but some still come through.

Re: anonymous caller rejection
NTL currently have a fault with ACR - mine hasn't been working for nearly two weeks now. When I rang them, they said it should be fixed by early next week.
You might want to get in touch with them and see if there's any new news.

How interesting. I will give them a call in the morning and see what they say. As far as I was aware, it was a known fault, but I'm gonna be bleedin' annoyed if they've been stringing me along.

Re: anonymous caller rejection
I was having the same trouble for ages. I rang NTL and had Anonymous Callers blocked. Which works because I dont get half as many as I used to. The nice CS Lady also gave me a number to ring to have a block on all Switch Board callers. 0845 070 0707 if anyone wants to give it a go. I haven't used it as of yet.
Now when people phone, if they dont answer first time, I hang up. If they do answer first time and sound foreign, I tell them I'm not interested in mobile phones and they hang up. LoL.
It really is getting beyond the joke though with all these cold callers. I spoke to one about a week ago and he said I could have a FREE mobile phone. I said OK, if it's free, send the phone. He said I needed to sign up to a tariff. So I asked how can it be free if I have to pay for it. Make me laugh. There is no such thing as free.
I've also tried asking them to take our number off the list and not call again but they do. Wouldn't surprise me if they all worked in the same call centre aswell.
Anyway, thats my story. Glad I'm not alone in this trouble but hope everyone gets sorted (and me) soon.

There is a difference between Withheld and Unavailable.
Withheld means the caller has intentionally blocked their number from being sent via CLID (e.g., has dialled 141).
Unavailable means the CLID has not been passed to your telephone network for whatever reason - this may be that it is an international call, a call from an Internet service such as Skype, or a link is not working somewhere.

Re: anonymous caller rejection
@jimbo NTL provide "Anonymous caller reject" Anonymous means the number is not shown, not available, withheld, call it what you like, if the number is not available they get a recorded message... Not working as it should.
international calls are displayed, never had a problem with those, unless the number is withheld then international calls get the recorded message.

I pay for Anonymous Callers to be blocked they dont block them all. I have known that hospitals and police could get through, but now it seams others can too, before long everyone will get though
I guess for now, there is nothing we can do, other than play them along, "Hold an a sec mate" then go make a coffie and leave the phone off hock for 20 min
