Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

My Downstream is VERY erratic, going from ~170 up to ~300 with in a few seconds.
My upstream is Very nice though , Averaging 65KB/sec

Question Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

As far as I can tell, my BB connection is still 3Mb? Can some one confirm the results below please? Thanks.

Downstream 3865 Kbps (483.1 KB/sec) 4174 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 493 Kbps (61.6 KB/sec) 532 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

Well, it looks to me like "part" of the upgrade has gone thru , Upstream 493 Kbps (61.6 KB/sec) 532 Kbps (inc. overheads) is not your average Upstream for 3mb ...

Same issue im having though

That is not 3mb - it's too fast. More like 5mb....

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

The whole situation is a complete farce. From scanning the posts, it seems that some of us (myself included) have been upgraded before we were actually supposed to be, resulting in a variety a problems. These issues include modems/STBs not being able to deal with the new increased speed and certain areas of the network not having been fully upgraded yet.

My guess is that NTL was planning to distribute new modems and complete all necessary work nationwide before upgrading everyone to 10Mbit. However, since a few CS Agents have jumped the gun, there is now a state of disarray amongst those still seeking the upgrade and those who have it but are having problems.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

Well said. Exactly what I was thinking.

Downstream 1551 Kbps (193.9 KB/sec) 1675 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 532 Kbps (66.5 KB/sec) 574 Kbps (inc. overheads)

(last speed post from me, Honest)

Talking Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

Just phoned CS and spoke to the obligatory nice Scottish woman. At first she told me it wasn't available yet but I said I was aware of other people getting it and asked her to check with her supervisor. When she came back she said it was available as a trial so the 10meg wasn't guaranteed but she could upgrade me and I'd get between 3 and 10 meg depending on what was available on my part of the network. 60 seconds later the modem rebooted and I was upgraded.

Been downloading a compressed copy of the Linux kernel at about 550kB/s, bandwidthplace.com rates me at 704kb/s (or do they mean kB/s?)

So not full 10meg but for a free upgrade I'm happy

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

One observation is these extra speeds do highlight limitations in your own network. For example - on my laptop downstairs wirelessly i'm getting the full 10 meg, but upstairs I'm getting 5 meg. Before you hassle NTL - make sure it's not your own problem!

yeah it's basically the last port of call when you attempt to leave. a dept dedicated to ensuring people who are about to leave dont (if possible) and sometimes they will offer you a deal to stay.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

OK, people need to STOP HASSLING NTL.

I just spoke to a lovely Scottish lady on the phone, who explained to me that not only will this be rolling out at the moment - the next four to six weeks - those people who HAVE been upgrade (yes, I'm looking at everyone here) has been upgrade INCORRECTLY. They will likely be downgraded, as their modems are either having, or will have problems once the network is finished switching. So stop chomping at the bit for full capacity 10MB, I doubt you even get full capacity 3MB. Plus your internet will end up busted in many cases!

There are very valid reasons why you can not have 10Mbit, such as those that I wrote above.

Telling people that it is a national rollout is very misleading tbh.
I was going by what's written here which says it's for new customers and those who upgrade from lower tiers - nowt there that says it's new customers only in specific trial areas. sure you're right Frank or are we all suffering from NTL's communication or should I call that confusication!

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

All the people that have phoned NTL numerous times to hassle them for the upgrade and are now getting worse connection results, bet they all wished they had been a bit more patient and waited until the *facts* had been established eh?

ok, this is getting silly - perhaps Mick or someone can ask NTL for an official line on what's the 'official truth'.
