Cool Does anyone use a email notification program?

Want to find a good program to monitor a a few email address's and play different sounds for each box wondered if any one was using on and could reccomend it.

Ie. play mail for mark sound when I get mail or a sales sound when the sales box gets mail.

At the moment I can access the sales email box but it does not give me any notifications that it has mail in it.

cheers

Re: Does anyone use a email notification program?

The application I use is Mailbox Verifier, handyman. The reason I like it is that it has a very small footprint and just sits in my System Tray checking for email while hardly using any resources.

However, while it will play a sound - and show an animation/change colour - for new emails, it won't do so differently for different accounts, so it may not be what you're looking for.

My ideal is something as near as possible to the classic Netscape nsnotify: I don't want bells and whistles, just a small app that does the job. To my mind, the big problem with most email checking utilities is that people keep adding clever functions to them until they're almost email clients in their own right. You might just as well leave your email client running minimised...

Re: Does anyone use a email notification program?

Do you ever look at the links you post atlantis. Or more to the point actually read the threads properly. 1st link is how to change the default sound in outlook well thats not what I asked for? 2nd link is the type that I would never click on as its a carp portal which will be full of pop-ups and ads and is the scurge of the internet, to top it off its full of......wav sounds. Still not you posting saying you use a email notification program.

We all have google. I actually use it but after trying a few progs and finding them not upto the job I thought I would ask the forum membership to see if what they use might actually do the job.

So to answer your question...

Re: Does anyone use a email notification program?

Handyman, all I can say is this, there is no one here on this forum who knows everything, all any of us can do, is try our best to help, and yes, I do look up a lot of info for other people, sometimes I get it right, sometimes wrong, I don't use what you're looking for, so I tried for over 2 hours searching online for you, prior to posting.
There was so very little info available, sorry about that, but is there any need to post like you've done?

Re: Does anyone use a email notification program?

Here's a bunch of email notifiers I found for myself a little while ago, handyman:

http://www.start7way.com/
http://www.adera.be/en/products/pop3easy.cfm
http://ant4mailchecking.cjb.net/
http://www.bettasoft.net/mailalert/index.html
http://www.andreamarangoni.it/newcheckp3/index.htm
http://www.cosydat.de/freeshare/eng/emailchecker.htm
http://www.ezchecker.ro/
http://www.aha.ru/~exchange/GIMCheck/
http://wonko.com/ham/
http://www.rekenwonder.com/mailchk.htm
http://www.mailutilities.com/mv/
http://www.poppeeper.com/
http://www.yoursurfice.com/Content/Poppy/Poppy.htm
http://poptray.crause.co.za/
http://www.webmasterfree.com/mailtap.html

But you'll have to check them out for yourself. They were all valid URLs for email checkers of one kind or another when I collected them, but that was a year or so back, I think.

Edit: they all appear still to be valid URLs for email checkers except the poptray one - http://poptray.crause.co.za/ - try https://sourceforge.net/projects/poptray instead.

Further edit: I have to agree with Paul M and atlantis - you were a little harsh there, handyman.

Ok maybe I got a bit OT.

However you do seem to post links at every thread thats started. Take this thread where the OP was looking for a post from a current ntl tech support person as to what they use to diagnose and fix winsock errors (prob on win98?). A link to winsock would not really be of much use because if you type winsock error into google you get a wealth of info on the subject.

Like I said maybe I was a bit hard on you, maybe your just trying to help

I'm not the only one thats noticed this btw.

Thank you for your comments handyman.

Can I further comment myself?

You mention I post links at every thread that's started, doesn't everyone do that, in either comment form or in tech terms?

To quote you "I'm not the only one thats noticed this btw"?
What does that mean? Am I on some sort of list compiled by the older, more established CF members?

If you're implying what I've said above, then that's really so sad, on all of you!

Effective immediately, I'm off these forums.

Re: Does anyone use a email notification program?

Right can I comment?

Your not on a 'list'

All I was trying to say is most people have looked at the links google provides and want further help. Thats why they post a thread with the hope of striking up a discussion about the subject. As I was.. I know theres probably 100's of email notification programs but was wanting to know if anyone had tried them and what their views where on them.

Its all to easy to google and post links I could sit here all day and do that but I personally hold back to let someone with experience on the subject help the posters if I don't have knowledge of the subject.

Theres no need to go And maybe I should not have said anything at all.

OK, that's enough guys. Take it to PM if you feel a need to further comment. Lets' get back to the original topic of email notification programs.
