media centre or u.s.b tv card to telewest?

is it possible ( and if so please tell me how) to connect a media centre pc or a u.s.b 2 tv card to telewest digital television???
i have a media centre pc with a medion tv card and also a happuage win tv usb2 type card.
but i have not been able to connect them to telewest digital?

i have an old telewest digibox is this a problem its an old pace box (see attachment).

could i connect via the video out scart on this box? as my video recently passed away (lol it was old so it wasnt a shock) and instead of buying a new 1 (dying breed video) or an expensive dvd recorder (which is what my pc could theoretically do anyway) i wanted to connect my pc up.

i spoke to telewest and they told me this would be the best place to ask as although they couldnt answer my question some1 here would be able too!

are you that some1 or can you put me onto a link that could help????

would like to resolve this b4 the test matches against the aussies start so i dont miss us knocking them over!!!!

to Cableforum.

First, please don't post the same question in multiple threads.

I'll try and answer your question, although I don't have access to a media centre PC, or a Telewest box.

Basically, you'll probably find your PC has an s-video in and composite in connections. Now, you'll need to buy a lead to connect the Scart socket on the box to the media centre PC. Something like http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...&doy=16m7&QV=Y

I *think* the Telewest boxes need an add-on so the PC can control them. Check http://www.redremote.co.uk/

Re: media centre or u.s.b tv card to telewest?

hi stewart thx for your reply.

i have the leads you have specified and an ir blaster remote.
however b4 you go further the I.R blaster set top box controller will not learn the codes for my telewest box.

the pc is modern and has s video and all tpyes of connections (it has so many that there is going to be no problem connecting to the pc its connecting to the cable box thats the problem)

the cable box is a pace Di1000t.

my main question is where do i connect out from the digibox? is it the video out scart point where u would normally connect your VCR?

and could the reason the I.R blaster not be learning my remote control be that the remote is damged in someway? (when you start teaching it by pushing the buttons it just recongnizes the channel up then when u push channel down it says u pushed channel up again...it wont get past this point so is my up/down button damaged even though it turns my pace box up/ down?) i have been a cable customer for many many years so my box and remote are old (but still work fine as far as i can tell).

anyways thx for your reply (sorry i posted in multiple forums but i didnt even notice the pc section at first so i just posted in telewest sections).

and if i have all the leads (which i think i do) where do i go next?

Re: media centre or u.s.b tv card to telewest?

You will want to use the SCART connection if possible. You'll need a SCART plug at one end of a lead that has the phono of s-video type plugs at the other end (s-video is picture only so you also need to plug in sound). From there you shuould have enough adaptors to connect your PC TV and sound cards.

You could use a more basic analogue TV card relying on a standard RF (co-axial) type aerial lead, but the picture quality will be that much worse.

As for the remote unit, PACE boxes don't use standard IR but IRDA. Thus a standard IR remote controller cannot work. Have a look for products called "digi-eye" or "red-eye". These may be compatible (but check before you buy).

Re: media centre or u.s.b tv card to telewest?

Can anyone tell me if you can connect a video card from a PC with DSUB and DVI and TV outputs on it to a scart input on a TV..

NOT via the TV output though but via the DSUB or DVI. The reason is that I believe the quality would be better than the analogue TV output?

Thanks
