...I really would like to know who those people are that really need a 10Mb line with a 75Gb cap. Are you really all that impatient you need your downloads that quick? If you're the type of person who does, the chances are you'll want more and as such the cap will be a hinderance.
I just wish some of the ntl backers and supporters here would at least acknowledge the fact that this cap fiasco is anything but organised? It's inconsistant, unprofessional and shortsighted. I've always backed the abolishement of users who are raping the service but clearly ntl's motive appears to be one of trying to provide a service as cheap as possible with low maintenance requirements.
Why do you think Telewest offered an uncapped service - because the majority of it's customers wanted it. Now I'm not saying that this was a wise move - but it is certainly a popular one. You can go on until the cows come home about fair usage and dubious content downloads, but if there wasn't the material there in the first place, do you think ntl would have a market to sell it's services to? No chance!
The Beeb have already opened trials of it's iMP service which if it goes live next year, ntl will have little or no chance of providing a service under it's current capping regime. I'm sorry, but as ntl have said it's going to be well into next year before they can offer 10Mb to everyone, by then there maybe more VOD services available so how are they going to service them if they potentially going to access such sites?

..it's called one rule for one and one rule for another! You're obviously the type of person that subscribes to this sort of mentality then? Without this bulletin board users would be oblivious to these facts - and ntl obviously believe that its customers are oblivious anyway which grates with me somewhat to be treated with such contempt.

knowing NTL they will try and block any access or charge extra to use these VOD services unless they are provided by NTL themselves.

BBC iMP thing it wouldnt surprise me if ntl stick that in broadband plus or something to try and subdue the usage of it.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
just a question, if 3meg was a 30gig cap why didn't they follow the same rule and make 10meg with a 100gig cap, 100gigs is ample per person per month, even for me

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
Any chance on giving up on all this? If we went for this 'method', 1Mbps should've been 15GB - which it isn't.
We're all hard-done-by.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
Im happy!! Ive been carring on downloading like I normally do. May have been slightly less than the first letter said. Ive just had my letter saying Ive been a good boy reducing my downloads!!!
The reason im happy is that (as ive said earlier on in the thread) im getting it free for 6 months. If they cut my connection speed ill just keep using it but get another connection. Then in 4 months time give my 1 months notice.

Thats what happens when you stick a flat cap no matter what time of day its used. Doesnt really reduce peak time congestion.

Your ntl Broadband Usage
In August we wrote to you about your ntl Broadband usage. We asked you to reduce your internet usage in line with our User Policy to help us continue to offer all our customers the same great service.
During the month of september your Broadband usage was 56GB which is in excess of the 30GB monthly usage allowance for your 3MB service.
Unfortunately, as you haven't reduced your September usage in line with ntl's User Policy, we will transfer you to a new unlimited service later this month.
More usage, less speed.
We understand usage is important to you so your new service will provide unlimited Internet usage at download speeds up to 512Kbps. Your monthly bill will be changed at the same time to a charge of £17.99 per month.
Now, the thing is I feel that since I reduced from 193GB to 56GB that is very harsh, indeed some people on here have said they received 2 warning letters, in light of this one I find that very hard to believe. Still I suppose rules are rules, at least I will admit I got busted unlike some.
The interesting thing is, after I got my first letter I downgraded to 2MB straight away, when my next bill came in it billed me for the 3MB. I rang CS and they said that was a mistake, they told me to pay that bill and next month would be free. Ok, fair enough but why on this letter is it saying I am still on 3MB? Ohwell, at least I did not get downgraded to dial-up.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
I'm just curious. What action will NTL be taking in areas where broadband use is low? If, for example, I live in an area where a small number and my excessive usage is not having a "detrimental effect" on other users, will I still be subject to this restriction?
Also, as NTL are a business, surely it makes more sense finacially to NOT throttle people down to 512 (even for £17.99) but to keep them on the teir they are currently on at the same price? Why dont they reserve the 3Mb teir and allow unlimited usage on that one - surely the average user (e-mail, surfing etc....) will only use a small amount of the bandwidth whereas the heavy users (streaming video, gaming etc....) will constantly be at 3Mb.
I understand that soon everybody will be upgraded to 10Mb with a teired system dependant on usage but why not keep the highest speed unrestricted for those that will utilise it rather than "waste" it on the "mums & dads" of this world who use e-mail once a week.
I know I risk flaming here but please just respond with a valid argument and let me explain myself :-p !!!!!

The "mums & dads" of this world who use e-mail once a week are not wasting anything if they hardly use their connection. It means that they are leaving plenty of bandwidth free for others to use.
Having 10 Mb unrestricted would mean that as few as four users can have a serious impact on the service of all users on the same part of the network as themselves.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)
Hi all!
Im new to this whole forum thing, and im gonna post stuff here to make an impact and I'd obviously need all your help
Bit Bout Me-> Im a bit of an activist where my last case was filed against P**PAL (much bigger than NTL) about the way they reversed money that i was paid, because the buyer had obtained the money fraudulently.... a long 4 month story cut short, I won and i got my money back.
Therefore, I wanna make an impact the way NTL handles its broadband services from the implementation of caps, unnecessary correspondence, and we all know the rest.
This is how i need your help guys and girls... can each person after this post state "constructive comments about the caps i.e. is it enough, too much (lol), better way to allocate it (offpeak/peak caps) etc...
Believe me, i got a great idea to get NTL to change its menacing ways!
So please please please tell me much as you can about these darn caps - keeping your comments clear and concise!
