Angry ntl threatening to pass details to collection agency!

Hi everyone,
I closed my ntl account when I changed to Virgin Broadband in February this year, giving more than the month's notice. I rang in March to query a DD and was informed that this was due to payment being taken in arrears. No problem with that.

However, yesterday I received a letter from ntl collections dept stating my account was in arrears as the DDs had failed and threatening to pass my details to their collection agency if I didn't pay within 10 days. Needless to say, I was not a happy bunny, indeed I was a most unhappy bunny, especially now that I know Virgin (my ISP)is also part of ntl.
Failing to get through to the collections dept, I rang the headquarters number and demanded to be put through to the most senior person in the organisation. After an extensive rant, I asked who he was and he said he was in the MD's office. He checked my account and said I had asked to be reconnected in April!!!! Now, some weeks after closing my account, i received a letter from ntl saying I had asked for service and they would be connecting me up on ... . I contacted them to say I had not requested service. Tehn anotehr short whiel later, I received a letter from Bt asking for confirmation that I wanted to be be connected to Carrier Preselection Service with an SP. BT confirmed the SP was Ntl and advised me to contact Ofcom. BT reassured me that I would not be connected to ntl.

No more letters apart from promotional ones, until yesterday.

A friend who does have ntl service also received a similar letter but all his DDs were paid. After hanging on for half an hour, he still hadn't got through to the collections dept, so I've now referred him to the headquarters number.

so Ntl billing staff, explain yourself.

It might be worth using the Responsetek thingy on here - that should get you a response (oddly ), and hopefully get it all sorted out for you
