RGB Vertical Shift

I have just had NTL Television installed today and on the whole its working OK.

But there is one peculiarity. When using RGB mode through the SCART cable the picture is shifted vertically upwards losing some of the top of the picture.

Using Composite instead of RGB there is no problem †“ but of course the picture is sharper and more intense when using RGB so thatâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s what I would like to use.

I have a Samsung STP connected to a Panasonic top of the range CRT TV. The TV is 2 years old but I think still being sold. I am in the South Manchester NTL area and am using the old Bromley sofware (purple screens etc).

I am aware that you can get a horizontal shift using RBG with older or cheap TVs †“ but I have never heard of it causing a vertical shift - and anyway this is a new and expensive TV.

Can anyone advise if this is likely to be the fault of the TV or the STB †“ and if it can be fixed.
Could the Bromley upgrade fix the problem?
The TV has separate controls for each Scart socket, but I canââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t see any way of repositioning the picture.

Re: RGB Vertical Shift

Definitely have it on an RGB Scart. The TV shows AV1(RGB) when feeding an RGB signal †“ and just AV1 when a composite signal. I switch between the two using Settings in the STB.

Re: RGB Vertical Shift

I've never heard of a vertical shift problem either.

Do you have a DVD player etc with an RGB output, or another TV, that you could use to work out whether the STB or TV is at fault?

It definitely won't be changed by the software update. The Samsung video timing is normally spot-on, but you may have been given a one-off duff box.

Re: RGB Vertical Shift

I've checked it out and it does it on the DVD player as well †“ so itâ₠¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s the TV.

The thing is that you donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t notice it on a DVD, or TV channels without text banners. The shift is only 2%. Its most evident on the likes of Sky Sport and Sky News channels where you often have text at the top and bottom of the picture.

I talked to Panasonic customer care and they thought it was possibly a fault in the TV signal processor. (The TV doesnââ‚ƚ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t have a 50 Hz mode †“ so there is no unprocessed option.)

I am doing some more investigations with another identical TV connected to a Telewest STB to see it itâ₠¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s the same. I want to see if itâ₠¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s a general fault on all these models or a one off with my set (and therefore fixable).

Thanks for your help.

Re: RGB Vertical Shift

You dont have any smart picture controlls switched on on your TV's a lot of widescreen tellys will try and move/zoom the picture to get the best fit, could it be this causing the problem, also does your tv have the ability to move the picture my mums phillips can actually scroll the picture in and out of screen to make sure it is central.
