Question wireless router and wireless usb adaptor problem

hi

i am having problems setting up my wireless network,

First off the I can connect to the internet if I hard wire the router to my PC.
Second. I can access the admin page of my router but cannot gain access to the net. Each time I try it comes up with page cannot be displayed. I do not have any firewalls and do not have any security setting on.

Please help.

Re: wireless router and wireless usb adaptor problem

well check via the USB adapter if you can see your wireless network, otherwise it might sometimes be easier to use the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration tool. you can select this by going to START - RUN and type in there net start wzcsvc, you would see a dos screen popping up and after that you can right click on the WIRELESS CONNECTION and select VIEW WIRELESS NETWORKS. after that it should be fine.

Re: wireless router and wireless usb adaptor problem

I will try that however, I do get the little icon next to the clock saying I am connectioned and it tells me that I am connected as well as the quality which is excellant. I can also gain access to the admin page.

I was wondering do USB wireless adaptors have MAC addresses reason being is I know NTL needs a mac address to register your internet. or do they just use the router MAC address?

Re: wireless router and wireless usb adaptor problem

it seems to be working now I seem to to be dropping the connection quiet a lot. What does the windows zero config doe exactly? do you know what this means "Tue Aug 30 22:08:16 2005 DOD:192.168.0.143 query DNS for paris-hack.com" I find it on my system log every couple of minutes.

Eg.

Quote:
Tue Aug 30 22:19:26 2005 DOD:192.168.0.143 query DNS for paris-hack.com

Re: wireless router and wireless usb adaptor problem

well that Paris-hack.com is not good....check your system of spyware and stuff like that.....also try and change your wireless channel normally that will make your service more stable and stuff like that.

The Wireless Zero Config is mickeysofts own wireless module in XP which sometimes works better then the interface supplied by the makers of the wireless card.

Re: wireless router and wireless usb adaptor problem

could you suggest a good free anti-spyware program?

what does query DNS mean?

I also got this "Tue Aug 30 22:12:32 2005 DOD:TCP trigger from 192.168.0.143:2253 to 217.12.4.96:80"

What is DOD:TCP trigger from IP to IP mean?

Re: wireless router and wireless usb adaptor problem

www.lavasoft.de

or via www.download.com look for Spybot and or Adaware

that 217.12.4.96 ip is from Yahoo. so there is something dodgy on your computer

also have you got a Firewall if not get ZoneAlarm.

the 192.168.0.143 is something in your own local network so most likely your own computer which has spyware and stuff like that on it.
