Re: STB changing channels on its own

Mine's doing it as well

Pace 2000, it was on Channel 4 and kept changing to 7 the ntl thingy, did it several times between 10pm and 11pm, only happened since I changed packages.

Southampton, Bromley platform.

So here's some questions.

Why is a poster above getting an engineer out if this is a known national issue? No wonder the company has money problems wasting it like this no-one ever talks to each other.

Why wasn't the software tested properly? Would have thought a fairly impressive bug like forgetting which channel it's on would have been noticeable?

At some point perhaps the CoCo side and Cabletel sides of the company might actually merge properly and DTV, telco and internet actually communicate, perish the thought.

Re: STB changing channels on its own

Got a pace box and I'm in the Portsmouth area and for the last two nights I've had this extremely irritating problem.Only in the evening, not during the day..during the day the time is out by an hour or so on the next/now box.

Re: STB changing channels on its own

The ntl engineer was supposed to turn up today but chose not to. They have been coming out because the faults dept seems to have no idea bout this situation. I tell of many issuesd which ahev been discussed but they seem totally ignorant as to this issue and they say they will get the fault sorted by continuing to keep visiting me (or not visiting me) which is clearly starting to seriously mess me about.

Right now, I have the following:
Box: Pace, don't know how to find out the model number

Times: usually overnight but occasionally at random during the day. It usually goes to Front Row channel 7 but on occasion to other channels. Has been left on different channels - BBC1, CNBC, E4, sometimes switched on sometimes switched off.

How often: At least a dozen times since 7 August

Where I live: Leeds (ex CWC - Bromley I think)

Any information appreciated Sam.

Re: STB changing channels on its own

Well I had the same problems again tonight, also in the Leeds area. Wasn't as bad as yesterday, only turned itself over once or twice. I have an engineer coming out between 12.00 and 4.00 tomorrow. If this is a known problem would I be best cancelling the engineer in the morning rather than wasting their time?

Re: STB changing channels on its own

Well I have had MY time wasted this last week twice and the engineer today just didn't bother to turn up. I said after I had waited four hours that I was not prepared to sit around another four hours on the off chance.

Can't comment if it has changed channel on its own today. It didn't last night but earlier when changing channel it went to a random channel and the box then froze.

I think people are really getting peeved off with this now. I sure am.

Re: STB changing channels on its own

What's likely to happen if I don't cancel the engineer? Are we just talking about a quick box swap here? So far everytime an engineer has come out to our house I have been given a new box and told that will do it. If that's what I am likely to be facing tomorrow then I may as well cancel them just to save my time as well as theirs.

If we have issues with software at work at it's been changed, we have to back out the latest changes. If this problem has been caused by some software changes, why can't the latest software drop be backed out?

Re: STB changing channels on its own

I'm in Stockport, ex CWC, Bromley I think with a Pace 1000 box that's years old (still has Cable and Wireless on the front).

Noticed the channel 7 thing happening over night for the last few weeks but not really thought anything of it. Suddenly at about 9:30pm yesterday the box went balistic, changing channel on it's own (sometimes to front row, sometimes to other random channels), freezing, sticking with the now and next box on screen and just generally acting as if the remote either had a fault, duff batteries or a key stuck down. Not sure what channel I was on at the time.

Something similar happened but to a lesser extent one night last week so I changed the batteries even though they were only a few months old. That seemed to sort it.

Last night I took the batteries out of the remote and the box continued to do it, particularly if you used the front panel buttons to do something.

Rebooted it several times and it kept on doing it.

This morning it appeared to be fine.

Not sure if this is connected but the time has also been out in the now and next box everyday this week and a reboot doesn't seem to fix it, on Sunday it was hours out and refused to sort itself out.

I'm going to log it with customer services as I have had problems in the past with signal strength (I am the first house on the street so I have an attenuator or the box refuses to pick up certain channels).

Re: STB changing channels on its own

Update:

There is a message on the faults line saying they know about the channel 7 thing and that they are working on it.

I spoke to one of the (very helpful and cheerful) ladies who also said that plasma screen tv's, low energy lightbulbs and fish tank pumps can also make channels change on there own.

As I have none of those, an engineer is coming on Saturday afternoon....

Re: STB changing channels on its own

I've just found a bit more information.

This problem has been worse over the last couple of days, caused by another change that has now been backed out. So, this problem does still exist, but shouldn't be nearly as prevalent as it has been.

I would still appreciate your posting when it happens. It's just on Bromley, so your location, channel you were on and time it happened are the most important.

Please also be assured that there a lot of people working on this right now. I will keep you updated on this thread.

Thanks
Sam

Re: STB changing channels on its own

Hi Sam,

I've got a Pace 2000 box on the Bromley platform. Every night for over a week now the box after 10pm for a couple of hours changes to channel 7 (front row) doesn't matter which channel I'm watching, last night it was channel 4 (Lost) not impressed.

Faults just told me they were sorting it, so I don't know if there is any more info available (as to why this is happening)

Regards,
Phil
