Freeview via NTL Cable

Hi guys i am an NTL user based in belfast.

I don't watch all of the channels ntl offer with their base pack and would much prefer a one-off payment for the freeview service. As they provide most of the channels i would watch!

The feature i require from a freeview / cable box would be connectivity with OSX (Apple Mac) and the ability to program it to record programs i want to watch.

I have recently bought a freeview box (http://www.elgato.com/index.php?file=products_eyetvdtt) and found that i am unable to get any signal at all (i purchased an internal aerial amplifier and still had no luck). I then bought another freeview box just to make sure it wasn't a faulty one ( i have since returned the latter )

I live in the city centre with many tall buildings around (and my apartment being below the level of most of the tops of the buildings) i think that i would require an aerial on the top of the roof, but this would cost quite a lot.

So is there anyway to use the ntl cable i have to get freeview channels, for no cost per month?
Either using some sort of ntl coax -> regular antennae adapter. Or returning the box i got for a different model.

Does anyone have experience with any of the elgato eyeTv cable boxes on NTL?

Thanks in advance for all of your help,
-dave

Re: Freeview via NTL Cable

If your problem is lack of signal to your aerial then swapping boxes won't do any good I would expect. If your signal strength is poor then you will be hard pushed to get anything through the freeview box.

Firstly to cable forum.

AFAIK you will not get Freeview digital signal via the NTL feed.

Re: Freeview via NTL Cable

Sorry if i raised ambiguity with the wording of my question!

What i meant was,

Is there anyway to get the equivalent of freeview via the NTL cable

Is there a cable box, compatible with OSX that offers PVR functionality. That is compatible with the NTL cable feed?

-and will it receive the standard freeview channels if i did not have a package with NTL?

Thanks!

to CableForum.

Freeview isn't available via NTL. Also, NTL don't offer any PVR boxes ATM. You won't be able to plug any non-NTL supplied box into the network.
