NTL Webspace and FTP in general

Since reformatting my main computer which my laptop is connected to through the net, I've been having issues accessing any FTP.

I thought the FTP may have been down for the ntl webspace. My brother had the same issue when he was using the cable through the main computer on his computer when he was accessing his webspace. It wouldn't allow him to use it, but he could on a dialup.

I've turned off all firewalls (kerio btw) both on the laptop and main comp and it still doesn't connect, so its not a firewall issue.

When i enter an ftp address different to the webspace one, into Mozilla Firefox it brings up the dialup connection... occassionally it's been popping up when I haven't asked it too.

Any ideas why its doing this?

EDIT: trying the webspace address on the main computer doesn't work either.

Re: NTL Webspace and FTP in general

have you tried FTP from a command prompt?

To connect to ntl webspace do the following:
Start-> run -> CMD
Press OK
Then type ftp and press return
then: open upload.ntlworld.com
you should then either be welcomed and prompted for un and pw or given an error message. If you get an error post back what it is.

If you're on cable you shouldn't be getting a dial up connection popping up.. open Internet Options in the control panel and check it's set to never dial a connection on the connections tab.

Cheers, that seems to be the cause of the dialup popup. Now I just need to figure out the problem regarding webspace access.

Re: NTL Webspace and FTP in general

No-one got any ideas why I can't access FTP on cable?

Using my dialup just now, I have no problems accessing my ntlworld space.. Which leads me to think that its an issue with the connection itself rather than firewall/other software settings.
