Re: STB changing channels on its own

If the remote has dying batteries it can cause this, if the remote is damaged it can cause this, remove the batterys from the remote control if with new batterys it still happens and see if it carries on.

Other causes:

DECT Cordless Phone base stations too close to STB
Energy Saving Light Bulbs
Plasma screen TV's can cause this, try seating the STB further back in the stand.

My STB keeps changin channels to the front row channel (channel 7) Has been doing this since the "updates to front row" last sunday. Did it 3 times on that day!

The one from Spiderplant - I'd be more inclined to listen to him than CS.

Re: STB changing channels on its own

Maybe that is the caee but the faults person told me that the problem was due to signal strength and that a technician would come and visit tomorrow.

I will also ask for a new remote to be on the safe side.

Aye, and another faults person told you it was your VCR. Frankly I'd believe the wise words of an NTL tech before swallowing any CS BS.

What I don't understand is why CSRs are not briefed on these known issues, so they can advise customers accurately rather than just making something up.

I've bitten the bullet and ordered the upgrade via a new Samsung STB. Hope it doesn't suffer with similar issues.

Re: STB changing channels on its own

You may find this hard to believe BUT low energy lightbulbs and plasma screens WILL affect the PACE STB, it will cause it to go to either channel or to the interactive page all on its own accord.

Re: STB changing channels on its own

As Spiderplant man has pointed out it is a software problem. But as 9083 has said low energy lightbulbs do affect the stbs .we had a case in a old peoples home where the council changed al the bulbs in the flats for energy saving ones.We then had loads of faults of stbs changing channels on there own at night when the lights were on

Is this the same problem I get, most frequently (but not exclusively) when switching to E4. The picture and sound will freeze for a few minutes, then it starts showing the front row movies for free. The stb (samsung) still shows the correct number for E4. Setting a reminder will obvoiusly not help and this is nothing to do with faulty remotes or low-energy light bulbs.

If so when will it be fixed?

Re: STB changing channels on its own

So you are getting this while changing channel, rather than it doing it when left alone (usually overnight)? And it isn't going to channel 7? Then I suspect that's something else, but I don't know what. When did it start happening? Whereabouts are you?
