Slow mail sending

Is there a problem with the ntl SMTP servers at the moment? - for the last 14 hours or so mail has taken an age to send - I'm on broadband and it sending slower than dial up. Eg. a 1Mb file is taking 10-15 minutes to send! Tried rebooting set top box, rebooting my mac etc but no joy, Receiving is fine and the web is fine, except for ntl's own site which is slow to load. No messages on the status page referring to Leeds where I am, no messages on the telephone support - i won't even try and get through to a technician as I'm getting 100+ people inthe queue before me.
Any thoughts or similar experiences at the moment?

What tier level are you on? Sending emails with large file attachments will rely on your upload speed a lot as you have to upload the data to the email server. Have you double checked the time taken by uploading a 1Mb file to your NTL webspace to see if it is the same?
