Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99
I just got the £9.99 flyer through the letter box and seen it for myself - I didnt realise how blantant this deal is until I saw it. It's like the mobile phone company offers where they offer a better deal if you're new.

I recently had a car insurance renewal quote from a well known insurance co for £265. I let it lapse and a day after it had lapsed,i went on their website and insured with them for the same cover for £230. I am definately going to investigate and maybe cancel my ntl contract. I've been with them for well over a year now and have no issues with the service but this really is taking the ****...

Sorry mate, But what about the free Broadband speed upgrades?
Wasn`t that a bit of a Loyalty bonus in a way?

I think if you're an existing customer out of your 12 month contract and you get this flyer, you'd be wise to ring up and cancel and subscribe for 12 months at £9.99 - most people would do it if it was their mobile phone.

Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99
I just seen the post and neighbouring flats have the flyers waiting for them. The free upgrades are nothing like a loyalty bonus, joe bloggs who been with NTL for 2 weeks get the same free upgrade as jack daniels who been with NTL 4 years.

A loyalty bonus can be something that tempts you to stay with a company and not move to one of its competitors. Speed upgrades will retain customers who may otherwise move to companies who already have those higher speeds.

Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99
Yes but today I called NTL to downgrade from 2MB to 1MB. I got broadband installed six months ago and am in contract for another six.
The lady told me it would be £17.99. So, without much hope, I asked her if there was any chance of me getting it for £9.99. To my surprise she put me through to someone else who changed my bill to £9.99 a month.
Perfick.

I beg to disagree, I consider a loyalty bonus something only available to those who have been loyal to the point where they outside the min terms of the contract. Thus of course have the choice of leaving the company. In my example Joe Blogs has to stay with the company for another 11 months 2 weeks if he did leave he would have to pay up the remiander of the contract so there is no loyalty to reward. So it wasnt a loyalty bonus it was something enforced on NTL to remain competitive.

There can be two types of loyalty bonus. One which rewards customers simply because they have been with the company a long time. The other which rewards customers by giving them incentives to stay with the company in the future. All companies should be looking to the future, the past has been and gone.

I agree on looking to the future, I just dont like see something like that been paraded as a loyalty bonus when its far from it. Everyone to their own opinion tho I guess.

Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99
It would be interesting to know how many new customers are being signed up at £9.99 and whether NTL are providing extra infrastructure to support them or will everyones service degrade as a result of thousands of migrants joining at this special rate. I have never received any incentive to join,i have paid the full rate from sign up. If the service is perceived by me and thousands of others to be good value at £17.99 then I'm sure others can see the light without offering it at a loss(?) of £9.99 AND annoying the rest of the loyal customer base. I had a letter from the "customer concern" department which really wasnt worth their while writing as it said very little. I'll just ring and cancel. I'd rather pay MORE to a company that doesnt think its ok to poo on its existing customers.

Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99
I've read a thread running on digital spy where a number of people are phoning up and asking to pay the 'special offer' price of £9.99 and getting it without any apparent problem.

Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99
vodafone have now joined orange method of passing on special offers to existing customers, O2 as well. So NTL strategy of copying mobile phone companies is now outdated.

There can be a vast difference in companies abilities to pass on discounts. Mobile phone companies can and do make obscene profits from most of their services and are in a position to give special offers to all of their customers. Cable companies have huge debts and cannot afford the same luxeries.
