Advice on a company

I hope this is in the right place please feel free to move it if it isn't

I am thinking of getting a phone on contract as it will be cheaper than my payg with the great deals that are about, now the advice part.

I am thinking of getting it from Dialaphone, has any body got any horror stories about them or are they pretty good?

Re: Advice on a company

One of my ex GF's had a dial-a-phone contract for ages and never had any problems with them - I've never had one myself so I can't tell you from first hand experience I'm afraid.

Whatever you do don't go with Phones4U (or Singlepoint, same company) - they're a bunch of cowboys. Refusing to replace phones inside the 12 month warranty period, not applying credits to accounts, not giving the tariff that I signed up to.....

Freudian slip?

Anyway... from what I've heard, dial-a-phone aren't too bad. Even though I'd prefer going direct to the network etc etc or just getting sim-free at a place like carphone warehouse... as it stands they, and carphone warehouse, are probably one of the better re-sellers.

Re: Advice on a company

Fair do's.

Maybe their service will get better now then?

I'm with Vodafone now (have been since I left Phones4u) and they're probably about the best provider that I've had.

Re: Advice on a company

I once set up an account via Dial a Phone. The worst thing I've ever done.

I think it was registered with Singlepoint and my problems were as follows;

- Phone packs up (no signal anywhere) within 2-3 months
- Told "We have no jurisdiction over the phones, you'll have to return it to Nokia"..."So I still have to pay my tariff for a faulty phone which you provided"..."Yes, you'll have to take that up with Nokia"
- I return the phone to Nokia, they take no responsibility for my continued expense
- 1 month later the same problem occurs. Phone is dead.
- Resort to using old handset and give up on any prospect of receiving compensation or a working phone for fear of wasting more money on an unusable tariff.

In short - avoid with a barge pole. They are cheap for a reason. They take no responsibility for the products they provide you with should they go wrong and generally don't give a s**t.

Re: Advice on a company

Yeah, that was pretty much the problem I had with them.

In the end I had to write to them, reminding them that legally they were responsible for the provision of the handset (regardless of the manufacturer's warranty) and threatening to take them to court if they refused to replace it.

Needless to say, I got the replacement.

Re: Advice on a company

the best thing you can do is ring up the large phone operators direct, haggle with them and look around online and in local shops such as CPW and see what they offer, you have to do a comparison shop in this case.

if you see anything which is a bit pricey but gives you cross network minutes or extra texts ring the operator O2 t-mobile etc direct and ask them about their packages and tell them what you want and have seen, you might get a good offer thrown your way.

http://audiovisual.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/...ct_phones.html

the above might help.

Re: Advice on a company

I would also (in light of earlier posts in this thread) ask them what warranties / insurance packages they offer on the phones, and about replacements in the event of handset failure.

Re: Advice on a company

Why get more then 12month insurance, because by 3days there will be a new better improved phone which when you got the contract was £599 to have but within 3days its free on a certain overpriced tarrif which in another 3days will be 3month rent free.

Depends on the phone. I had my p800 for 18 months because it was the best phone available that fitted all my needs.

Re: Advice on a company

I would also try and check what the reception is like before choosing which network.

I am currently paying for a service I cannot receive satisfactorily with Orange and there's nowt I can do.
