11 years for rape
BBC
Quote:
A man who raped a 12-year-old girl and made her pregnant has been jailed for 11 years.
Ibrar Hussain, 27, from Keighley, West Yorks, pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court to raping the child in 2003 after DNA evidence linked him to the attack.
The girl did not mention the assault until she was taken to hospital with stomach pains and doctors discovered she was nearly seven months pregnant.
Mr Justice Andrew Smith said it was an "appallingly nasty" offence.
The court heard Hussain had planned his attack on the girl before he pulled her into his house and raped her.

Re: 11 years for rape
11 years isn't very long. He could well be out in 6. Sound be 20-25 at least.

Re: 11 years for rape
Sentences never seem enough for these kind of crimes, especially seing as generally they'll only serve half of it.

thats true for alot of crimes though, i dont really know what an adequate sentence would be, because there is proberbly a high reoffending rate for this.
how can you stop or rehabilitate a person like this ?

Re: 11 years for rape
He's Asian and a rapist. I don't rate his chances of making it out of prison alive, and it's a guarantee he'll be harmed inside. So 11 years isn't really 11 years - it's 11 years with the possibility of throat slashing, stabbings, beatings and/or ******* removal.

If not then a cheaper alternative would be two bricks and a rubber band Seriously though, is chemical castration the way to go for this crime? If he's lucky he may still be in one piece when he gets out of jail
That's if he doesn't get this invite first

Re: 11 years for rape
It was pre-meditated. I'm not bothered about his human rights.
In my eyes pre-meditated rapists will not ever be rehabilitated and if we can ensure they do not offend again we should do so.

By not letting them out?
Crime in society is committed by criminals. Put criminals in prison and society is free from the actions of those criminals though not from the next generation. It would be easier for the police, however, as fewer criminals would be in circulation.
Might act as a major deterrent if sentences were longer and criminals were required to serve the full sentence.Sentences could be extended for bad behaviour.
Might also help if we could rationalise sentencing so that there is a hierarchy of sentences with minimum prison sentences being set for each type of crime.

On the face of it, doing that may seem draconian, I wonder if it comes under the "cruel and unusual punishment".The US doesn't think so as it has already been passed, but I wonder how you define cruel and unusual anyway. It is painless, but alters someone's behavior for life. I think if it is proven to work as prescribed, then it isn't so bad.
Anywho, I thought they always said rape was about power, not sexual gratification?

A neighbour who studied such behaviour in the US learnt it was about "control" as much as anything else. So what good chemical castration then?
