Re: Connection problems

Try this on both computers
start menu,
run,
type cmd
press enter
type ipconfig /all >c:\ip.txt
press enter
open my computer
open C drive
open ip.txt file
Copy the contents of each text file and paste here one at a time

Re: Connection problems

hmm, have you got another network cable you can try between the router and the non connecting PC. Perhaps temporarily use the cable between the router and your good PC?

On the non connecting PC, can you ping the IP address of the router, i.e. in a DOS (Command) window type "ping 192.168.2.1" ?

Use the one connecting your working pc to the router so that you can determine if it was a faulty cable between the non-working pc and router.

Did you try unplugging the cable from the working connection and connecting it to the pc that isn't connecting? Or is it not long enough to reach?

Re: Connection problems

I'm not quite clear on your network setup. Can I confirm that you have:

Modem > one cable connecting directly between > Router
then:
one cable from router into PC1 (host - the working one),
one cable from router into PC2 ("client" the non working one)

and not:

Modem > cable > PC1 (host)
then
cable from PC1 into router
then
cable from router into PC2 (client)

Re: Connection problems

Perhaps you can also post the model number of your Belkin Router. Can you also confirm that you are using ethernet and not USB connections on both PCs for the network.

Re: Connection problems

What settings have you specified in your LAN connection box in Internet Explorer, tools, internet options, connections, lan settings?
Also on the connections tab you have told it not to dial a connection haven't you?

Try connecting the non working pc direct to the cable modem without the router being involved to see if it can connect that way. Turn off the cable modem for a short while and allow it to settle down before connecting the pc.

Re: Connection problems

Have you tried deleting the LAN connection from the network connections folder, restart the computer and allow windows to rebuild it?
