Cooling problem

Hi all. Well, it's approx 23C outside at the moment (well here it is) and my CPU is running at about 67C under load. I've got both of my windows open wide and my ceiling fan on full foward, and it doesn't seem to be doing much of a good job.

I've got the retail fan I got with my Athlon 2400+ on, and I was wondering if I should get a more powerful fan before summer comes (when it would more than likely hit 30C without a problem, therefore my CPU would go straight over 70 and crash).

I've got 2 fans at the back of the PC taking air out, and 2 in my PSU. I've got 2 slots at the front of the case for another 2 fans as well.

What would be best? Getting 2 case fans for the front of the case or a more powerful CPU fan? Possibly both?

Intake fans make next to no difference, AMD themselves have said so. Get a decent HSF and some quality thermal paste (AS 5 for example)

First thing first, your Athlon can go to 90 before damage so no worry there.
How are you testing the temp? I use the MSI app to go with my mobo and when I did the last update the temp indicated dropped by 10c so it could be that.
Other than getting loads of new fans, get a better cpu cooler, look on overclockers for advice.

Using AIDA32 and my HDD cooler. HDD cooler reports the heatsink at 56 and AIDA32 reports the CPU at 65C.

Could any one recommend me a good & quiet fan? Hard to find one that would do the right job these days.

my xp2000+ sits about 55-60 under full load when its hot, but i dont trust the figures... when i turn it on out of s3 (standby, comes on in a couple of seconds) it reckons the cpu is already at 39°C!
i think my mobo must report about 10-15° too high...but then it is a bit of a worry...

Quietest fans you can get are either Panaflo, Papst or the Akasa "Ultra Quiet", for a heatsink try the Thermalright SI97 (coupled with a 92mm panaflo fan if you can find one).

ive known simply reseating a cpu to reduce temps with of course new compound.Here is my highly technical way of testing temps are being measured correctly,if when hot you touch your heat sink if you feel a sharp pain and hear the sound ow you b**** then its running hot

I think I'm gonna go with the Thermalright SI97, see if I can get a Panaflo 92MM and if not, I'll get the Akasa Ultra Quiet.

Not to the CPU but a couple of decent ones in the front are good for your hard disks.

I'd recommend the zalman silent fans...pretty good. But hey, with the A64 winchester i can turn the fan off under low loads and it idles fine @ ~32-34

Only if your hard disks actually sit in front of the fans, which in most cases they don't.

Vantec are reknowned for shifting very little air, best avoided.

hang on , if it was working ok , and now it isnt working ok , then you need to work out why it isnt now working ok instead of throwing money at it , funnily enough , the same happens where i work , something breaks and they start throwing money at it instead of going to the root cause , if you see what i mean

I think he did work out why it's getting hotter .. it's no longer winter.
