AQA planning to send GCSE English papers to India

I have read about this and other have told me about this it must be one of the worst ideas any company in the UK have ever come up with.

I work in school and we mark the optional sats in school. These papaers are like all other exam papers each child put their name on the front page only. So if someone splits the questions teh chances of a child being given wrong marks has just doubled.

I am still looking for more news posts on this subject but I really do not trust this method of marking.

OK, must be the story in the Daily Telegraph 25/04/2005, one needs to be registered.

Very sad, outsourcing again for a measly pittance, examiners to be paid one fifth of UK pay, papers to be e-mailed to India for marking. Actually, exam boards don't do much anyway, most of the work is already done by teachers as coursework.

According to the link that was posted, all that is done in India is keying in one-word answers. All marking will be done in the UK.

Bit like those cpmpanies that say they havent liad any staff off to outsource their call centers to India yet staff have been given 30 day notices. The same people could have covered the calls and still been in work in the UK.

Also as I said if they are splitting the questions up the childs name is on the front cover the chances of a child been given a wrong result will increase.

Also this can be done in the UK and give someone a job we do need some work for our own population or we will become a country split with half the country paying to keep the other half out of work because all the jobs they could do were outsourced.

Infact most companies try to bull their way out of bad publicity.

Re: AQA planning to send GCSE English papers to India

Last year some of our GCSE papers were sent to Australia to be marked, I believe, as there were not enough staff to mark the papers.

Re: AQA planning to send GCSE English papers to India

there are plenty of people able to mark the exams if these companies bothered to arrange for this to be done. Instead they look for the penny pinching ways to cut corners.. if the exams can't be marked in this country then stop putting the children through all the stress.

Re: AQA planning to send GCSE English papers to India

This is ridiculous and whoever had that idea deserves to be sacked.
Not only are we sending things all over the place and throwing jobs to people not even in our country when there are homeless people who would gladly wish to work in the UK; Who would be better at marking, English people that have been brought up with the English language, or people in India that have English as a second language and will be less qualified in the subject.
Terrible idea.

I don't care where mine are marked this year as long as they are marked correctly.
