How would you set these disks up in XP?
80Gb Sata 8mb UDMA 150 7200rpm
60Gb 2mb UDMA 133 7200 rpm
20Gb ?mb UDMA 100 5400 rpm
On a board with 1Gb 3200 DDR 400Mhz Ram in dual channel mode?
Specifically with regards to the swap file?
Split it into 2 or 3 for instance?
Cheers.

Re: How would you set these disks up in XP?
o/s on the sata the other 2 as back up disks
I personally would put swap file on fastest other hdd
I would make it static 1.5 x ram min and max
It wont fragment if its static
No swap file on main hdd

Re: How would you set these disks up in XP?
i'd have the system on the 60 gig, swap file to be on the 80 gig and use the 20 as a scratch file if you need it...
thats assuming you want them for high end work, video faffing etc. for wndows and/or games it wont make a huge difference, just make sure the system and swap are on separate channels (one sata, one pata acheives this).

dont split the swap file! although it could possibly be made to work faster i don't think windows is clever enough to do this!

Re: How would you set these disks up in XP?
i would run games and apps and os on sata, i would keep a ghost image and swap file on the 60 and i would keep very important docs on 60 ,20 and cd
Again we are going to have a discussion on hdd performance,I would say the sata is the best drive so o/s should go there

i pretty much agree wth that, good advice, but i think a ghost image might be a bit excessive (if its even possible, depending on how much space your apps & games take up)

Ghost compresses the image there won't be a problem there my system totally loaded is only 12 gig
I always keep a clean install only about 2.5 gig then keep an upto date one monthly or something
