Any chance of me getting a discount from NTL?
I'm thinking of changing my broadband to UKonline's £9.99 a month service but in order to do this I would have to switch to BT and lose the few NTL channels I get in the process. I was wondering if it would be possible to ask NTL for a discount rather than switching over to BT and uk online.
Currently i'm on the NTL base package for TV and phone, which is something like £14 (I think ) and i'm on 300K broadband for £17.99. Will NTL offer anything decent to me considering i'm on the lowest available packages? And if so, what's the best way to haggle with them
Thanks

I assume you are on analogue TV at £14.
You might be able to get NTL to let you move onto the 3 for £30 pacakage that gives you the digital base pack, telephone and 1Meg BB for £30 a month. This is for new customers but you might be able to persuade them as you are doing an upgrade. That way you would get more TV channels for £2 less a month.
Other than that I would suggest you move to BT and get a Freeview box which will give you more channels than you get on NTL analogue.

The only ones I watch at the moment are sky one and E4, do you get them on freeview?
Also, what other channels do you get with the 3 for £30 offer?

E4 is only available on freeview with the 'top up tv' for £7.99 a month.

urm... don't mean to be rude p5x but bt and ntl both have websites with all the information you are asking for..... perhaps have a look at those??

Re: Any chance of me getting a discount from NTL?
BT phone lines start at £10.50 last time I checked
Add the £9.99 for the UKOnline broadband
As for freeview... you have to get topup TV to get E4 - dont think you can get Sky 1 through freeview... may come in topup TV though
Topup TV - £7.99 pm
try and get on NTL's 3 for £30 imo - better option really

Well freeview looks a good deal for people in analogue area's who dont have premium channels.

A big spender like yourself making the company so much profit I'm sure they'll be willing to cut you some huge discounts.
The ridiculous 3 for £30 deal is your best bet though, of course it does entail an upgrade and downgrade to the 3GB/month 1Mbit package. You'll have to argue a little as it's 'brand new customers only' really.
Also means digital TV and telephone, but makes you a triple play customer, which is nice on the penetration figures.

Re: Any chance of me getting a discount from NTL?
don't mean any offence my this, but I don't like this "can I have a discount please or i'll go somewhere else" stuff.
When you subscribe to something you know the price if you then find something cheaper for the same level of service then move to that supplier.
If every customer received a discount if they threatened to move to a different supplier, the prices for everybody else but have to rise to pay for your discount.
Also does the fact that the 300k brodband tier is now 1meg influence your decision in any way.

Re: Any chance of me getting a discount from NTL?
I think it's great that people ask for a discount from NTL. Wouldn't have been as justifiable years ago when they were such good value for money and very hard to beat, but seeing as they're pretty expenisve now people should ask for a discount.
They should be giving you the 3 for £30 deal at the very least - I hate it how companies only reward new customers and not loyal ones.

The 9.99 on ukonline is 512 kbs uncapped so it could influence in either direction??

Re: Any chance of me getting a discount from NTL?
You have checked that you ARE in a £9.99 Ukonline area, I presume?
If you're not a heavy phone user, the Line rental is cheaper with ITPLC - not sure how their insllation charge compares, and you're pretty much stuck with their tariff (no CPS, and they may take a dim view of prefixing, though it apparently does work).
As for NTL digital channels - without checking, I believe Sky 1 is one of the few things that differentiates NTL's base pack from freeview, and E4 is in the Family pack and some other packs, but not base.
We can all be guilty of inertia - if we weren't, I don't think NTL would have many customers left ... I just wish Ukonline would put their kit in my local exchange, then it would be a quick goodbye to NTL's poxy proxies.
