Re: a clean install of XP

If he was on 98 he is on fat32.
The info mentioned, with the app. is easy to follow so there will be no problems.

I did it the other day, with no problems - i.e. upgrade from 98se to XPpro, got it all as I wanted it then ran the convert tool. It is fast, too, I was expecting something like a format or defrag, but it was much quicker than that.

Re: a clean install of XP

ok, I never actually completed it for myself, but I did do a screen shot for him to follow.

but I have another question, it may be stupid, but hey.

when I click start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
I have it customised with my own colour scheme, but when I click start > run and type cmd
why is it that the command prompt has defaulted to the original colour scheme?
and what is the difference between and what can you do or not do in either?
is it like being a SU in linux?

ik
p.s. pips coming to the ones I have not pipped in this thread

Re: a clean install of XP

Hey everyone,

My wee brother wants his computer which is XP SP2 converted from FAT332 to NTFS.

I did the convert c: /fs:ntfs
but I get this message:
The type of file system is FAT32
Enter current volume label for drive C:

There is nothing about this from the microsofts page in one of the posts above about volume labels.

what would I put in here?

ik

EDIT: not to worry, I found it

Overkill i know! but you can never tell. Compared to the price of a disk, hunting for drivers is a nightmare sometimes.
