You m,ust not confuse the actual audio produced by a soundcard or onboard soundcard with the speaker in the case.
The speaker in the case should have a short wire that will connect to one of the pins near the others you havce been putting in, eg. reset, power, h.d, etc.
This is used to signify system beeps, however when you switch on there shouldnt be any beeps. Asus boards do not beep at all if everything has booted up fine.

The winbond editor thing is a thing bundled with Asus motherboards. In the event you have a problem, and that the Winbond speech controller is enabled in the Bios, a voice will alert you through your soundcards external speakers tha something is wrong. eg. CPU not installed, or No Graphics card detected.

The Speaker for the beeps is rarely used these days and is just there for the odd system sound thats generated now and again. There should be a speaker attached to the case and it will probably have a 4 pin connector labelled SPKR.

Now onto your front panel stuff...
If you have front panel sockets, eg, microphone, headphones, etc. connect them to either your soundcard or to the front panel audio jack on your motherboard to use the onboard sound.

Re: Building my own PC

Not for all boards. My P4C800E Deluxe does not beep at all, and that shows its booted fine.

PS: Looks like you are near the switch on stage.
Make sure you've double checked all your wiring and that all rear connections are done (I forget the number of times I forget to connect a keyboard and mouse), and leave your case door open so you can check to see that all the fans are spinning properly.
Go get yourself a nice cool drink, flick through the motherboard book onelast time to check if you need to have anything ready, have your driver discs and O.S, ready, and then press that power switch.
Good luck.

Are you sure you've plugged the speaker in?
Mine does though - A8V Deluxe.

Re: Building my own PC

You dont need to plug anything in for the post error reporter voice system. That is onboard already and will come out of your normal audio speakers connected to the back of your PC.

The Post beeps would come out a tiny speaker in your case. Its only the wire from that case speaker that needs wiring up now.

EDIT: Just researched it and it and seems my motherboard doesnt beep. They only beep if a usb device is connected or an error occurs it seems. I know some other boards in the asus range dont beep either, whilst tohers do.
It seems to depend on your bios firmware version and different boards.
Anyway, if you do have beeps, 1 beep is a good sign.

Re: Building my own PC

My mate just got his A8V Delux motherboard today, to find they hadn't installed the BIOS onto it. He was fuming, and has to wait while he sends it back.

But when he puts his audigy in, he will be advised by ALL on here to disable the onboard sound in the bios, to save conflicts in windows etc.
I've got an Audigy and also use the onboard sound supplied with the Asus motherboard and they coexist fine. Got to say though, that if you want to record anything through the Audigy, then forget it - the driver is crap.

Oh, and good luck with your switch-on this evening or whenever it may be.

I remember the first time I switched mine on - only to find that the power switch didn't work because I'd plugged it in the wrong way round. Oops.

Thanks m8! Power up won't happen for a while as I'm still waiting for PSU/CPU
