that event to the Columbine shootings, but in these cases the main common factor seems to be that they took place in schools.
The UK example doesn't compare at all.
I'm not sure these events are such harbingers of doom as you suggest - they're rather isolated and few and far between.
There's lots more happens on a daily basis in every town and city of this country that are actually more indicative of the general decline you mention.
