Re: 3meg worth it?
I think it is worth it at the moment. probably about the limit really that you need. movie "sized" files take an hour to download for me maybe a little more.
What I am more interested in now is my upload speed. I wish NTL would do something about that now.
I think if my upload was about a meg or 2 then it would suit me just fine, I could run a web server from my personal server rather than paying out extra to purchase good hosting.

Re: 3meg worth it?
HI all
when on the 1.5Mbit service my speed tests were typically in the 1.41 Mbit range. Since upgrading to 3Mbit typical values sre:
Wed, 16 Mar 2005 19:42:25 UTC
1st 128K took 406 ms = 322837 Bytes/sec = approx 2686 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 515 ms = 254509 Bytes/sec = approx 2118 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 516 ms = 254016 Bytes/sec = approx 2113 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 500 ms = 262144 Bytes/sec = approx 2181 kbits/sec
It's the same whichever speedtest site I use - about 2.3Mbit
I haven't changed anything else hardware wise
Is it me or is it them - should I get them to check my Modem out?
Grateful for advice.
Geoff

Re: 3meg worth it?
I get this...
Wed, 16 Mar 2005 20:51:01 UTC
1st 128K took 343 ms = 382134 Bytes/sec = approx 3179 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 344 ms = 381023 Bytes/sec = approx 3170 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 343 ms = 382134 Bytes/sec = approx 3179 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 344 ms = 381023 Bytes/sec = approx 3170 kbits/sec
Dont notice the slightest difference when just surfing, only when leeching...

Unless you leech terabytes of warez, I would go for 2mb and pocket the difference...
I will be knocking it down after my 30 days is up...

Re: 3meg worth it?
Easily worth it.
I hit 340-355KB/s almost constantly. The only thing that will kill it is the Proposed 1GB a day cap, then it is most certainly NOT worth it.....
Anyway, this is not a cap thread so..................

yep, for now it's worth it. Downloading at 350KB/sec makes downloading just about anything effortless. If you're not a big downloader, it's probably not.

Re: 3meg worth it?
I am monitoring anything I upload/download at the moment and few of the systems I regularly use give me performance over 2mbit - so I am considering downgrading. The main thing that puts me off at the moment is the reduction in u/l speed to 200k - but looking at my usage logs so far - I don't seem to upload much.

Re: 3meg worth it?
I am also downgrading when the 30 days is up, I download a fair bit but I can still download good enough with 2mbit, with a significant saving i £.

Re: 3meg worth it?
My broadband upgrade has been brilliant.
A new config file updated the poor power levels I had, my broadband connection hasn't dropped since and I get downloads around 350kb/s.
Is 3mb broadband worth it, in my opinion yes and I have been constantly moaning about the service for a while - this is based on the basis something doesn't go tits up
