Jeeez, whatever next? "He ran out in front of a car, so the driver was negligent in knocking him over"?

He should get nothing.
At the age of 9 I was wandering all over the place and out of sight of my parents.I was allowed out to play and I range far and wide, climbing trees, wading in streams and generally being a kid. However I was reminded time and time and time again about going near the stream....Kids don't always listen. However my gran always knew I'd been in the stream because her coven of local 'witches' knew who I was and reported in....Not every child in this day and age lives in such a tight community.

Luckily I never came across a place in my travels where I could get into trouble like this lad.Now you can say my parents were negligent but I think they allowed me the freedom to be a child, unlike today's children who can't even go out to play a game of footy....

But they are still allowed out of my sight - as long as I know where they are and they know the boundaries - but whatever you can't keep your eyes on them all the time. As for the kid in question it's almost a there but the grace of God go I with me as I used to get into all the usual scrapes and fights. At the end of the day this kid was just trying to get his ball back, not mug an old lady. Not saying the level of compo was right in the grand scheme of things, but he was just a nipper and nippers need protecting from themselves (and it's not a nipper's fault if his parents aren't up to much).

So he fell 40 feet whilst getting his ball back!

I think the payment was too small, if he could kick a ball onto a roof 40ft up at the age of 9 he could of been playing for England now.

It was reported on the radio he was getting his ball back. If that's wrong apologies on behalf of me and Five Live

No, I wasn't getting at you for that.

It says in the article he was getting his ball back, I was being sarcastic about him obviously kicking his ball 40 feet up onto the roof, that he fell off when he was getting it back.

I assumed he had been seriously hurt from the incident, but the article goes on to say he was expelled from school a few days or weeks after the incident.

Wierd story.

EDIT: The link from the first post in this thread says he was expelled form school within a week of the incident!

So he wasn't physically hurt that much, I wonder if his parents were looking for a payout..... Was his name Chesney like the one in Coronation Street by any chance.

Anyone who can kick a ball 40 feet up should be playing Rugby, not football... (did they specify what type of ball it was?)

(cough! Beckham!!! NO!!!)

Re: Trespasser wins payout of £567,00 0

I just thought I'd add that one of the main reasons that work even have anyone doing security where I am is just in case any little loved one has broken into the site and hurt themselves.

It is hoped that either myself of the other guy will be about to render assitence to them.

If I FIND a trespasser I'm not supposed to even approach them, but go hide in my portakabin and hide then call the police.

Mind you of the few that I HAVE found I'd say that %90 run away at the sight of me anyway. The other %10 had to be introduced to my pal Mr Maglite.
