Turn Off Cablemodem to order frontrow

By brother has an problem with his ntl cable tv system, where by he will have to completely turn off his SACM to be able to order anything from the set top box (frontrow or whatever), he has phoned NTL a few times about the issue and has had 2 engineers around at different times, after checking through the issues, they have told him there is nothing that can be done.

The SACM and STB are both using the same NTL cable with a splitter sending it to the correct device. By thoughts are that his power level is low.

He also has lots of problems with the box, but these are removed once the SACM is turned off.

any ideaS?

Should be OK, the splitter probably affects the upstream most - which is needed for interactive.

But the SACM uses different frequencies so unless he physically removes/bypasses the splitter I don't see what difference turning the SACM off does. I therefore suspect a marginal signal power level plus extra noise coming from the SACM ?

Is there any information i can give to him to tell NTL? They have basically told him that there is nothing that they can do and he will have to continue like this, which sounds rediculous. If i had some good information to tell NTL then maybe they would be able to fix it.

Because its the upstream that is a problem you need a friendly ntl tech support person to monitor the connection from their end and advise - but many people have just given up on interactive for similar issues.

He took the anneuator off the digibox the other day (it was already off the cablemodem) and immediately he was able to use the digibox and cable modem exactly how its meant to be. Its been perfect since

Considering NTL techies had already been around numerous times, you would have thought one of them might have tried this.?

Our service techs are great, some of them even know how to use a power meter
