Re: Asdl

Try typing ASDL into Google and see what answer you get.

No more than cable would. You get the virus via your broadband connection (ADSL or cable) or from an infected CD or disk and it needs a voice/data modem connected to your phone line to call out on. An ADSL connection, whilst on an ordinary phone line, uses frequencies above the voice line frequencies.

Re: Adsl

I think he means, the dialer viruses that run up your phone bills...

if that is the case, No, your not vulnerable to them, they will still install themselves, but providing you have no dial up modem in your pc or connected to a phone line, they will not crank your phone bills up....

Re: Adsl

They are not a virus, as such either.

I find that the only way diallers get installed is when people actively download and run them and/or click yes when it asks you "do you want to run this program".

But many times they are hidden into something... I.e. Are you sure you want to scan your PC? Yes No..... or, This site has restricted access, please click the allow button to enter..

If the user thinks they are doing something, and they need access then they will click ok..... its just a scam to catch the "average" user.... really... whilst its not a virus, it should be deemed as such i think my system picks up as spyware at work.... which is Norman

Re: Adsl

I thought he meant, because your ADSL modem is connected to your phone line, is there anyway software can force this modem todial a premium rate number like a dialup modem?

But as Ian said, its impossible as they work on different frequencies?
