See BT announced the trial for the 8mb ADSL service on adslguide, had an email from plusnet saying they expect to roll 8mb out to 500 exchanges in the autumn assuming the trial goes ok, so ntl on 3mb Pants.....

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)

If these new bandwidth caps are introduced and overuse of is enforced, I can't even begin to think of the number of NTL customers like myself who are about to reconnect their BT phone line and open the floodgates of choice for adsl unlimited usage.

Irrespective of the arguments concerning how generous some people think the NTL cappings are, personally I think it's ridiculous in 2005, that we in the UK have such poor offerings from what was once in my opinion a great company.

Am I also correct in stating that even when I do opt to reinstall to BT, but choose to continue using NTL's digital TV that I will still have to pay for NTL's phone line rental even if I don't wish to use this service?

In the small group of friends I've spoken to today, out of the 23 that are existing NTL customers, 11 are as irrate as I am. I certainly hope NTL rethinks their broadband plans.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)

The 'Average' NTL BB customer (The very large majority) will be more than happy with the new free speed upgrades...

And the heavy users who flock to uncapped ADSL ISPs will find poor service or caps pretty quickly if all the heavy users flock with them....

Autumn is a long way off and even when it comes and they do roll out 8mb it doesn't mean that you may be able to get it. A lot can happen in that time and no one knows what ADSL ISPs may be doing about usage by then.

8mb ADSL may sound far faster than 3mb NTL but there are a lot of ifs and buts that could mean it isn't.

I think that anyone on NTL is better off staying with them as long as the caps are soft and watching to see how the ADSL side of things pans out.

So they lose a couple of hundred heavy users, or even a couple of thousand. They'll have to make do with the remaining million or so then won't they!

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)

Problem is i very much doubt it will be a couple of hundred heavy users, you see i was recommending ntl to a large group of people, after discusions on this board, the majorty are of the opinon that if they enforce the caps then their gonna lose their business, and its not just broadband but tv and telephone, I know of at least 8 people who have already had enough of them and have started cancellation proceedings, i myself have already switched my telephone line to BT and can bin ntl at the first sign of a cap being enforced, and connect with adsl without any hassles... so if these are just the people i know then how many others are doing the same, i very much doubt they would lose just 100's more than likely thousands.

With ntl currently only providing up to 3mb with a 1gb cap, and the adsl suppliers doing 8mb in plusnets case for £14.99 a month for a 1gig cap, or 39.99 for an 8mb unlimited connection, why would i want to donate my cash to ntl ? why would anyone ?.

Because heavy users who flock to uncapped ADSL ISPs may find poor service or caps pretty quickly if all the heavy users flock with them....

....and I think you are grossly overestimating the number of people who will be affected by or care about the 'caps'....

Nobody is stopping anybody leaving for a 'better' deal least of all NTL and if you are so convinced leaving is the right thing to do then go........ and look for an ADSL forum to moan in when your ISP offers bad service, introduces caps or even worse uses 'Fair use' or 'Excessive usage' to end your contract before you want to leave them

We'll leave it a few months and then start a welcome back to NTL thread for you

I'm a very light user and I will be taking my business elsewhere a 1 gig a day download cap is totally unaceptable to me. I could live with a monthly allowance but not the daily allowance. Mainly because ocassionally I have to down large files this may be only once a month the rest of the month is just general browsing.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)

welcome back to ntl thread are you taking the p***, no bleedin chance come back to a network with A) no money, B) inept staff, C) sending all their jobs to india, D) a CS that it take over an hour to get through, E) More expensive calls, F) limited broadband, do i need to go on...its gonna be like a weight lifted from my shoulders to dump this lot..

And as for caps, yeah some do have caps but on adsl i get to choose who i go with and their caps are set out from the beginning, unlike NTL who entinced me and many others with "UNLIMITED" broadband..

UKONLINE 500GB a Month now that kind of cap i can handle.

I think it is monthy but works out at 1 gig a day.

It's not even going to be enforced for months and when it is nobody knows how or what they will do. They may leave the caps soft as they are now if the network does not suffer with the new speeds...

Bye then it's been nice knowing you.

The history of the internet in the UK is littered with companies that offered free and/or unlimited services which in time have become paid for and limited. Move along to your ADSL supplier with their usage policy that you like that will probably change when they reach a point where they can no longer sustain the high usage customers who are affecting their profitability.

Changing the subject slightly, it is amazing how those complaining about the caps all know and have spoken to many other users who are all going to jump ship because of the caps. I have spoke to a small number of NTL customers who are all overjoyed at the forthcoming speed increases and don't mind the levels these are being capped at. A couple of them would be concerned at a 1gb a day hard cap but that isn't what's coming. It's a 1Gb a day soft cap same as now. When it does become time for hard caps I am sureyou will find they are per month rather than per day.

I have also spoken with a few ADSL customers who are considering moving to NTL when the new speeds are available and are also not bothered by the caps. You should hear some of the stories they tell about their fantastic:not connections.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)

Because of the above bad things about NTl, I left last year for Sky TV, BT Phone & Plus Net broadband.

I shall never look to coming back to this awful system.

The prospect of recordable TV (sky+) 8mb @260gb capped broadband & a phone that has never failed with a CS that I have always been able to get through to has made it totally worth the extra that it cost me to move.

Seeing that (given that I'm within sight (ish) of the exchange) I should be getting 6-8mb next month I have been wiring the whole house up with conections in every room.
I have 4 Xboxes to go online, 3 PC's & hope to have my own server.
I'm aiming to be controlling my house via the net as I'm putting technology into the house to do so.

I'm looking forward.
It apears that NTl are not.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)

zoombini: But try explaining that to the brainwashed....its so rare i read a balanced post on here.

I dont work for ntl I use technology for all sorts of different things but when i see a company who sold broadband as "unlimited" turn its back on their statements i take the whole company as liars.

Just my viewpoint.
