How are they being underhand and 'hiding' it? ntl have publicly stated that the upgrade will not be automatic, and that 300k users will have to call in if they want to do so.

Can someone please explain why there will be what sounds almost like a massive uprising from thousands of NTL customers? What's there to be livid about?

I guess they will be livid at having their speeds upgraded again [for free].

I would prefer my speed stay the same, or even downgraded to 512, but no soft or hard cap to be implemented.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)

Do NTL plan to inform us at all, out with this forum Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢ve read nothing, i know its going ahead but nothing has been mailed to me.

I'm on 300K and its upgraded on the middle march, so do i just phone up and ask them on the date or what?

I thought they would have been adverts, somthing in my Bill that pops through my door every month.

Where and when did NTL PUBLICALLY state this? I've seen nothing on their websites, no adverts of any kind, and i've certainly recieved no emails about it.

When the people of this website were told of the upcoming changes, they were informed that there would be 'no active advertising' for 300k users, and they'd have to phone customer services off their OWN intuition in order to recieve the upgrade, otherwise they'd be kept at 300k with a 30gb limit. Which is very underhanded, claiming that 300k users are being upgraded from 300k to 1mb at NO cost, while in fact they are only being upgraded if they KNOW to phone about it, which they won't, as ntl have no plans on telling them about it.

I would imagine that NTL will not actively publicise the new speeds until the service is active and the relevant codes are on their systems. How many people are still asking the same questons on here about the upgrades? If customers were all told about the new speeds in advance the NTL switchboards would go into meltdown and stay in that state as customers tried every day to upgrade even though they may have been told the date of implementation and that date had not yet arrived.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)

The problem with not 'officially announcing' the upgrades is all the rumour-mongering and second guessing that happens. It ends up being a game of chinese whispers.

Does anyone think they will get some notification when they receive their next bill?

The only reason it's being done this way is because 300k users might not want the tighter cap, so it would be wrong to force them onto this.

And the next question will be 'why not write to them?'. Because that costs money and would have to be factored into the price somewhere.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 2)

Surely it's not being forced on them, merely offered to them.
Not telling them is like saying I was going to give you £100 but you didn't ask me to, so I'm not going to ...

Who's going to phone NTL on the off chance that they just happen to upgrading you BB connection within the next 2 weeks?

I was merely answering orangegirls post, saying that ntl had stated such and such... where in fact they hadn't.

People wouldn't have to ring the switchboards if ntl had TOLD them what was happening, it's the fact that noone knows for sure, which is making them ring up and ask. Ntl KNEW that when they gave the details to the shareholders that the information would be leaked, all they had to do was keep their customers informed. A simple mention on the website, stating that the upgrades would happen around March/April, and people would have accepted that.

BT emailed their customers before any such information about higher speeds and caps were leaked. Even informing each individual customer if their usage would be affected by the cap, going by past history. That was in November i think. Ntl are due to upgrade in less than 3 weeks, and they still haven't officially mentioned anything. Keep the shareholders and investors happy, the customers don't really matter. And according to the information given to this website:

There will be no active marketing to 300K or 750K Pace STB customers, however those who call about the new speeds will be upgraded by Customer Services

Not exactly putting the customer first!

That is the good old ntl 'telephone ping-pong', coupled with a smattering of the old "CS-BS" I'm afraid.
