NTL unbundle digital from Telco

At long last. They have finally done it.
It will now be possible to have digital without the telephone line.
An offer is imminent which customers can buy any speed modem and get the digital base pack free of charge for 6 months, or upgrade to the family pack for £10

There is no requirement for a telephone line to be subscribed to.

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

If this is true, then it is a massive move for ntl & their customers, & I for one applaud it.

Do you have a link to his information, or anything to substantiate it?
(Not that I doubt you, but we really do need some form of evidence to support your post )

[Edit]-Perhaps ntl have been listening to me harp on about how wrong it is of them to force their phone lines on DTV customers?

[Edit 2]-Having re-read your post, their is nothing their to suggest any 'unbundling' of any description.

There is an offer currently I believe of free DTV for new BB customers, but the requirement is still to have an ntl phone line.

Or am I missing something?

Technically, you do not have to have the telephone line installed if you do not want it but you would still have to pay for it after the free offer ended.

I find it hard to believe as it would take ntl ages to break even on a digital only customer ...

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

they would only be able to unbundle the phone line if the price of a STB had tumbled to peanuts.

Personally I find this suggestion from today's Guardian far more appealing: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/s...387377,00.html

To clarify, it's this idea I like: "There is a growing desire among telecoms companies for NTL and Telewest, whose fibre-optic cables reach more than 13 million UK homes, to open up their networks so other companies can provide services such as broadband internet access. "

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

It would be good if NTL and Telewest opened their networks - if they merge, as that article says, they'll probably have to.

Digital without a phoneline? One way to go bankrupt...

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

Any news on this then? Was just on the ntl site, and still saw that the phone line was compulsory still..

No use to me though, as I'm still stuck on analogue here in Westminster Although, when, or if actually, digital is available here, I don't actually want the phone line...

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

I'd LOVE to live in Westminster... what's it really like?

Although, it's hard to think that we really have better all round communications here in Notts!

I spoke with a CS staff member at ntl's Bellshill centre and was told there was now NO requirement to take telephony. I was also told the pricing. £19.99 for the Family Pack (which is £29.99 WITH phone), so the figures and tariff seemed plausible. Having discussed it with the missus, and called back to arrange it - all I've spoken to - probably different call centres - that you cannot have it without phone, or phone stays unconnected. Either way, Family pack costs £29.99.

Is anyone aware of the true situation? Yes, I'm aware what it says on the website, but was told by the agent that it hadn't been updated.

Confusing, or what?

Re: NTL unbundle digital from Telco

I'd really like to find out the truth here. We want to leave phone and broadband in December, but keep TV.

Preferably, just the Base Pack.

Then how do Time Warner cable (US) do it when they don't carry a telco line to the house. The telco is carried by the former baby bell. The only telco Time Warner Cable can offer is IP telephony.
