I trust bt more then adsl, they at least seem to be investing something into their network and do fix things out of hours.

ukonline 8mbit is here in may.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please

Or within about 2KM...

Approximate Ranges of ADSL products, obviously hugely dependent on other things:

Line Length (for loss in dB multiply by 10 and add 10)

2KM - 8Mbit (over 50% of those in BT enabled areas are in this bracket)
3KM - 6Mbit
4KM - 4Mbit
5KM - 2Mbit (97% success rate at this speed and distance)

Line length can be approximated as straight line distance from exchange multiplied by 1.4.

BT are trialling 8Mbit with a view to a nationwide release, not only urban areas. Should offer those who aren't able to avail themselves of LLU operators access to higher rated services and encourage more competition on speed with cablecos.

Distance from exchange is available from http://www.samknows.com - just go to availability checker and enter your postcode.

easynet arent a part of bt they got their own exchanges so its nothing to do with them you just need to use a bt line to connect....
plus when adsl2+ is out and all u cable users still on 1.5Mb while bt users with wireless modem and at the switch of a button speeds of up to 24Mbit.. i know where i would rather

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please

i own a 100Mbit dedicated server so its not my home connection on ntls 1.5MB i think that much b/w is impossible in 2 days even if u leave it 48 hours running

from 100Mb to 8Mb is alot less but i am sure i could easily get through it, sending large digi cam videos to my cousins in cyprus who i see twice a year and such things like that make b/w go quick for me

So what could NTL offer? What have they got the capacity to supply this year if people start cancelling for 8mb dsl?

hmm i always suspected that was my local exchange, i was kind of hoping, now for ukonline to come in to this area, although a 20-25 mins car journey can see me in a ukonline 8mbit area, right now.

*fingers crossed

Does anybodu know how to "apply" for the speed upgrades? I'm on 768k and would like to go to 2Mb for the one-off fee of £25!

Cheers

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please

'British Telecom has said it will double the broadband speeds of most of its home and business customers.

The increased speeds will come at no extra charge and follows a similar move by internet service provider AOL.

Many BT customers will now have download speeds of 2Mbps, although there are usage allowances of between one gigabyte and 30 gigabytes a month. The new speeds start to come into effect on 17 February for home customers and 1 April for businesses. '

From BBC (so is probably old news) - wonder if NTL speed increase will be here before then
