Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please
Ok then, let's say my box IS faulty.. I mean, according to one of the regular smart asres on here the samsung box cures all the sound issues on the bromley network.
So.
Guy comes round, fits said box.
Why/what would i have to pay £25 for?
And once I have a new box what's to stop me cancelling my BB and then starting it up again, as a new customer, for free?
Why are current customers treated worse for 'loyalty'?

'First time customers' only is usually put in all these promotions.
Just like the xbox offer i bet it would be the 'First time customers' policy. You just are trying to circumvent the system, i guess you could threaten to quit and see how far you get

There are ways to circumstent the charge, you could threaten to cancel and pot luck depending who you talking to they will waive the charge and possibly give you a discount or they might call your bluff, then if you carried out your threat you could resignup but would have the aggro of having some downtime.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please
Well this NTL guy I talked to didnt seem to know anything about the £25 charge and said we'd be automatically upgraded and it would be like "go to bed on 300k, and wake up to 1mb".
I guess time wil tell.
Most businesses do charge for transferring and although it probably doesnt cost them anywhere near that amount to do an upgrade, they need to put the money elswhere in the network so its a way of making money isnt it. But as its only a one off fee, then why not.
Seems good enough for what I'l be getting.

It makes me laugh that the people who are complaining most about the imposition of caps and knocking NTL for restricting their usage are the ones that are looking for ways to reduce their contributions to NTLs coffers. If you want faster, unrestricted broadband you have to pay for it.
Just noticed something rather odd. My last post was my 1,999th making this my 2,000th but I am sure that I passed the 2,000 mark a few days ago. Odd.

Incorrect people have the right to express their views or opinions. "whingers" are the ones who keep trotting out the same old time after time, after time.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please
We have it on high authority that there will be a £25.00 one off payment.
The benefit to the customer is that they will be on a bigger download bandwidth for the same money per month.
The recent "automatic" upgrades and the proposed "£2 5" upgrades have both meant substantial changes to the Infrastructure to accomodate the new speeds. These changes cost money, and ntl have paid for this already.
Why would they offer increased speed for free ??? It's a business for christs sake. They are there to provide a service and expect to be paid for it.
£25 one off fee .... then continue paying what you were before, for a faster service, hmmm, difficult choice .
The choice is yours. If you don't like it, don't do it or leave. simple really.
The upload speeds may be changing too, we are waiting confirmation.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please
Good grief, a one off £25 fee to double your speed??
Its peanuts to most people [and no i'm not rich and i appreciate students or everyone else is'nt loaded] its not even £2 per month.
When you way up the cost if you dont like paying it, you can stay on the lower tier, its not compulsory.
I've been more than critical about the cap, that stinks, but the £25 would'nt lose me any sleep, whereas the caps caused me to change isp.

not much....
oh, apart from:
- writing new config files
- added billing details to 3 databases
- supplying every 300k or 750k customer who wants to upgrade with a new set top box
- upgrading the network where this is needed
- promotion of the new speeds

I think the point Paul is making is that the Cable Forum team has access to people quite high up within NTL (people who would know, or at least know someone who would) and these people have said there will be an admin fee.
The person you spoke to may have assumed you are a new customer (logical assumption - if you have a service, why approach a salesman?). If this is the case, then they are right. There is no admin fee for new users.
