				Put Router to Sleep

Silly question maybe. If you turn your PC off at night as I do, do you power down the router if no-one else needs access to any services.

There's no obvious need to, its not like it consumes huge amounts of power!

If it consumes electricity, you may as well turn it off. No harm will be done.

			I power mine down:

  1. Because it's wireless and I'm paranoid
  2. Because it consumes power and I'm skint (not to mention tight)
  3. Because the King of the Potato People tells me to do it

And so in conclusion, it is purely a personal thing. There is no problem with settings being lost or anything technical, just an economy or safety reason.

I leave mine up because it's also my DSL modem so it's easier to leave it running, I leave my switch on too.

exactly, I have my connections to ntl as installed, other stuff goes off the 6 gang, surge buffered strip
which does have a 4 gang plugged in - but low amperage, honest

Unless you run a server As has been stated its purely personal, sometimes my Router can take a while to realise theres a connection to NTL and so sits there for a few minutes thinking about it, its nice to be able to turn my PC on and have a net connection straight away, and I doubt the people who use my IRC server would be too happy if I turned it off every night to go to bed
